They're still out there

I did not speak with the owner but this was pretty rough and would cost a small fortune to restore considering it is located in Hanapepe on the island of Kauai. Judging from the splah aprons I would say it is a 31.

Where is that located? Where I live, the city would be all over the owner to get rid of that "JUNK". It's too bad the car doesn't have some "real" weather protection, or get restored.

For about 30 years I have been driving past this one several times a week.
I can remember when it was in decent shape.

This was on the main street in that town. Easily seen by many. I doubt there are many services available here and everything would need to be shipped back and forth. It is 3000 miles from anywhere.

You gotta see Hanapepe! I have! Honolulu it ain't! For that matter, you gotta see Kuaui. (SP) The national Bird of the Island is scrawny chicken. Actuallly, Kuaui is very nice. However they have these wild chickens runing all over. I was there and staying in a home in their "grand Canyon" (Wieamea, I believe) and the darn chickens would keep you up all night calling to each other from the opposite sides of the canyon. We stayed with a very nice Japanese family and had a lovely time. Kuaui was used in the movie Jurassic Park. Actually, It's the real Hawaii with out the tourist glitter and fake Hula dancers.

Right Terry. Oahu's only purpose is to visit Pearl Harbor. After that go somewhere else. Check my post on the v8 site for the ford pickup planter.

Hey Skeezixx where is that roadster at? What state what town?

About 1 mile from my house in New Orleans, Louisiana.

I have banged on the door of the owner several times over the years. He won't get off it.

I grind my teeth every time I drive past it. It used to be under a carport till a couple of years ago. It's going down fast.

My only hope is to outdistance him. I read the obits every day and if he goes first I'll "pay my condolences" to his widow before she calls the scrapyard.

Frank's picture of the phaeton, jogged my memory banks. In the late 60's early 70's here in New Zealand Model a Phaetons like the one pictured and the 28 /29 style were common place. For some reason by the mid seventies they all seemed to disappear. I guess they will all surface in time.

i saw that car when i was there in 2005 for my honey moon
i couldn't figure out how to get it home then or it woud have already been restored
oh well
good to see its still there
on a side note didnt it wierd you out at all the chicken on that island
tk

That car in New Orleans is a 29 coupe with the top cut off, not a roadster. I have seen it. And it's true, the owner won't sell. He thinks it is a gold mine.

Someone from Tacoma wrote a letter to the local paper calling it the barnyard island.

Boys - settle down now on the roadster! Is that the real thing or, a Shea?

Only the guy with the daily drive by can tell us. Hopefully Ford stock............................ time to put it into a garage!

Be well gents:cool:.

Past owner of two rustless Shays

Many people who have one do... They tell you some long story about x paid way too much some years ago and has not done anything to it... They don't understand the true enjoyment is working on it and driving it around  not how much money I can/will make.

I really don't care that the top has been cut off that all can be fixed - it is just metal. I just hate to see something like that laying around. Either the guys in Michigan have bigger pockets or they stole it, there just is not any and I mean any cars like that laying around any more in Michigan. Maybe they got sick of people asking so they hid them out of sight.

It's the real thing. Not a Shay.

About the top... I can remember seeing it years ago as a sport coupe. Either someone modified it or I was mistaken and it is a cabriolet.

In any case, I can't get close enough to it to tell these days.

"SKEEZ"

Thanks for the reply - I hope some day you can grab it and provide it with a new life. No offense to SHAY owners - past/present. If it runs, anything is fun!

See you on the road -
