Front motor mount help needed

I just pulled my 1930 engine to replace the clutch, and noticed that my front motor mount (see pic) looks different from the mount in Les's Mechanic's Handbook and other pics I've seen. Mine has a rubber center support, whereas the others have a center spring. What the heck to I have? Is it better, worse, or who cares when compared to the 'original'?

Aftermarket "improvement."

Someones idea of making the engine vibrate less.

It has some basis in fact. Rubber trunnions have a certain amount of "damping" that a true spring suspension only pretends to have.

But it's all a balance between allowing relative motion without transmission of high frequency motion.

Try it done up as stock. You can do this for small money. You may see no difference. If you don't like it - change it back.

Playing around with your Model A is part of the hobby.

Back in the days they had come up with all kinds of different front motor mounts. it is an after market of some type. if it is a driver, as long as your crank hole lines up use it.

Ok, thanks for the quick responses!

Hey Bill,
Yeah, it is definitely...NOT stock and IMO not an improvement over Henry mount ! Most likely, the Andrews book that you are looking at, will have the correct parts....BUT, I'd double check because there are 'things' in that book that people have pointed out that are incorrect . Good luck :)

Maybe mine is the same. Could be as I can't get a good look without removing the radiator or Motor.

I would bet that you will have a problem replacing the fan belt with the motor installed.

You're right, Marc -- you have to jack up the front of the engine a bit to change the belt. Even with the new thinner profile belts. Same problem.
