1932 Ford "Heavy" Axle

No such thing as a heavy axle.Someone made that up.All 32 pass car and pickups are the same.33-36 will interchange as many probably were.

Old thread I know but wanted to add something. I dont know the correct answer but if this is indeed true, that there is no such thing as a '32 Heavy axle, then a certain shop who is dropping axles is charging market value for a '32 Heavy axle ($400) vs a 32-36 axle ($75). If they are the same, that's a lot of $$ difference.

Leeport, where are you? I am in Kerrville. There is the EFV8 Texas Tour here this weekend. The axles that came under 32's should be called 32 axles. There are no 32 heavy axles. There are no 32 light axles. The replacement and later axles were noticably lighter. There are 32 axles and 33-36 axles and that is it.

The axles made in 1932 were bigger/thicker than the model A and the later replacements. Due to the thicker metal, it takes more gas to heat them up. It likely takes a bit more finesse to get it to proper shape too. I can see why a dropper would charge more but it shouldn't be a way lot more. Most I've seen were over $300. That might be a misprint of $375.

Austin Tx.....the Roundup is this weekend.

I used to think that too seeing several of them on some Canadian '33s and I bought a NOS one at a Canadian swap meet, but then I bought a pretty unmolested '33 coupe built in Canada that did not have one and I also started to see them showing up on '33s built in the U.S., so based on a small sample, it seems less than conclusive.

What you’re referring to is a post 36 ford replacement axle for 32 to 36 pass and pickups.
I have one and had another in the past. They have a part number on them unlike other production line axles

What I think is strange about a '32 axle is that they beefed up the axle then machined the wishbone mounting area down even smaller than an A axle. What was that saying about the weakest link?

Old Ford Addict,

With respect, that is not what I was referring to. I was referring to a front axle that is unique to '33 production and not a later service part. The later service axles all have consistent cross sections, ends and center.
