Let it go or make it into another project

It's time for a new or different toy, I've had no offers or real interest in my roadster, I've been thinking streching it out for more comfort / leg room and putting the flathead or a modern 4 banger in it with some other mods. I doubt it will make it worth any more or less. Anyone else debating what to do with their car. ? Hold on to it, sell at any price, or cut it up and have some fun remaking it.

Larry, since this is predominantly a "restorer-promoted" forum, I would imagine the bias would be skewed towards preservation of the vehicle, --either through "holding on to it" or selling it at what the true value is. "Why" is there no interest in the vehicle? Do you have any pictures you could post or maybe describe it more in detail??

[/IMG]Brent, Hope these pic's show, if they don't can I send them to you and you can post? Engine rebuilt, new babbet, rods, pistons, NOS valves & guides, B cam, flywheel, front cover, carb, high comp head, L&B int, trans compleatly rebuilt with NOS parts - even the shift forks and rods. All brake componets. leakless water pump.
It's a nice car, not a put together. I'm all for keeping things org as most here are, however Want to do something else now and if this is sitting there - well you know. I still have 2 correct Model T's to putt in, don't need or want the A anymore.

Lar,

That's a beautiful car. Before and after pictures are always cool.

As Brent said, the bias here is likely to be that you leave it as-is rather than altering it.

It sounds like now that you've finished the car you've lost interest because there's nothing much left to do. If you see the car mostly as a project, have you thought about selling it for whatever you can get (with A's, surely less than you've put into it :( ) and then finding another "canvas" to start over again? If working on it was 1/2 the fun and the work is done, maybe it's time to find another car that needs your help?

Just my $0.02

That is one beautiful Roadster! Way too nice to alter. Get what you can from someone who will appreciate it and drive it. Then go out and find another project car to alter as you like. Just my opinion like Brent said you would get. Don/WI

Thanks - 14,500 is close to what I have into it, so selling at a loss is not to appealing right now, it'll cost close to that to buy and put something else together - For not much I can modify this. Your so right though that I'd rather sell this and start on something else. I'm out of room for more toys without getting rid of something, the 26 t and vette are next on the chopping block. Gotta keep the 16, to close to being 100.

Lar, you said " For not much I can modify this. Your so right though that I'd rather sell this and start on something else."
Do you really like the car, original or modified? It doesn't really sound like it. It might help to think ahead as to how you would feel if you did modify it. Would you be happy with it for only awhile and then want to get rid of it again? If so, you would want to recoup the $14,500 PLUS the cost of modification and could you realistically sell it for that then if you can't sell it now?
And if you got tired of the project and didn't finish the modifications, then what?

Yes and no - it's only a car, abit a neat one. I'm over 6' so it's tight inside. No don't see getting more after mods and yes it probably would be for sale at some point after running it around for a few yrs. Although I don't always get them 100% done, I never have started one that could'nt be driven away. Wife would sell off the car/parts if it ended up that way. I guess if I look at from a fun/use point of view - fun meaning $ I could let it go cheaper as if I modifiy it I'll get more fun/use out of it and still sell it at a even lower price because I got more fun/use out of it.

Hey Lar,

That's a beauty. How about a trade for this? You would have a nice project to finish and I could putt for a while!

Will,
great tudor also. Like both of these cars. Both are a piece of history. Can't believe, that the roadster don't sell for the 15,000 US$.
Where are you located Lar?
Will, what's the price for the tudor in this stadium? Is it a original 32 chassis you mounted the body to?
Thanks, Alex

Lar,

Your in the same boat I was. I had a '29 Woody project that I could not keep moving along, lost motivation, but didn't want to take a loss. A friend said "get what you can, cut your losses & move on to something you will enjoy". I sold the car and enough parts to fill a car trailer & the back of a Ford extra cab truck for less than $3000.00. I took that & more, purchased a '32 Roadster off e-bay in Ohio. I drove it for a few months & realized it was too small for me, so I sold it. I then bought a 180A out of New York (didn't know it was a rare body style), put it on a TCI chassis and am driving it like I stole it.
Point being: Do what you gotta do to enjoy the hobby. I had 2 other cars that I was going to build to be the "perfect" car. It never happened and I built the Phaeton to be a driver. Never happier.

I think some of my problem is this is the car I care least about but have the most into, so in my mind if I can't sell it, I can make it into something I would like more - then maybe I'd keep it for another 10 yrs. Not looking for the perfect car just a more comfortable one. They're all drivers to me.
This A had 79699 miles on it when I got it, did the brakes and ran it for 2 yrs like it was, at 80994 I pulled it apart - wife wanted new seats, that started it all.

I just can't believe, at the price you stated, that there is little or no interest in the car. That is bare-bones money for a decent Roadster. Your's looks pretty nice in the photos I must be missing something? Full of bondo? Something is amiss. I don't get it. The top and rear curtain is weak, no offense, but it needs replaced. No pictures of the drivetrain or chassis, maybe they are trash?

If you are asking $14K for that car, and can't sell it, what does that make the other '30-'31 Roadsters out there worth? I know prices are objective/subjective for particular cars and situations and all but that seems like pretty weak money.

I wonder if this may be a ploy. to generate attention and controversy, and you are really not serious about this. People have come on here before and have done this especially with the 'I'm gonna cut this up for a rod, whadda ya think?'

No ploy, no offense taken, just wondering what others in this sitution might be doing. No bondo no fillers no replacement panels, engine & trans compleatly redone, rear end and tube not done - have nos bearings to do those. The top is org so it looks the way it does. I don't get it either, thats why I am debating on what to do with it. Oh it does have modern shocks on it.
