Drake's New adjustable lifters

Other vendors have had "soft" lifters that ruined cams. Do not know where Drake gets his but would be worth checking and maybe having a hardness check done.

fh34,
Call and ask one of Bobs staff what the Rockwell hardness is, approximately
the inch pounds resistance on the adjusters and if the faces are crowned or flat.
I'm not jiving here....those are legit questions and someone should know. You need
this info before the lifters are trapped between the cam and end of the valves.

What should the answers be to those questions to make them worthy?

Personally I would buy from Red's, they have a long track record of meeting all the requirements. I don't doubt even the cheapest chinese lifters will claim to have high hardness and torques. They'll say anything to sell them.

I purchased a set of hollow adjustable lifters from Mac's and out of the car I couldn't even turn some of the adjusters others I could turn very easily. Also the lifters wouldn't fit in the boar. I ended up using stock lifters and spending all day grinding valve stems. best thing I ever done. The after market parts I'm afraid of.
Sincerely Len

I will add one thing here, if any new lifter does not have the thick head on the adjustment screw, it will may not work with a reground cam because of being over all too short when adjustment is let out. The further the adjustment is screwed out, the less it will stay adjusted.

Back in the late 80's when I started "Nostalgia engines" building these engines. I couldn't get the hollow adjustable lifters, so I used the 8N tractor solid adj lifter and quite a few of these engines are still running with no problem. I realize the use of a light weight lifter sounds better, but lifter weight is not an issue with a 4K street engine.

I used 8N tractor lifters in mine when I rebuilt it 20 years ago. Still going strong. Adjusted them at 2000 miles and haven't touched them since.

I just looked at 12 sets last night at my flathead builders shop.

Beautiful perfection doesn’t begin to describe them and his words “ they are better than Johnsons ever where“.

I've seen literature from several vendors that refer to them as French hollow lifters. Most of them probably do come from a single source. They are made from chilled cast iron but I have no idea what the rockwell hardness should be. Many are so stiff a guy has to pull them out to adjust them then put them back in and check clearance. It's kind of similar to grinding the stems. A guy might as well use the OEMs on those.

The best suggestion so far is get them from a proven source like Red's Headers or H&H Flatheads. Mike Herman says they make their own V8-60 adjustable right there in CA. Don't know about the source for big flathead ones.

I'm still a little leary due to installing a set from JC Whitney and they were soft junk. So
I rather go with genuine Ford, adj. New Holland part no AONN6500A 1939 to 1952.

I tried that number at New Holland part sites and got no hits. Where did you find info? Thanks John
