T-3054 spring

I'm looking for a T-3054 spring. In the Model A "Parts Price List",
it said "Same as T-3054". Were does it fit on the chassis and do
they reproduce that spring, like original? NOTE,...it should be part
of the brakes?

Thanks from the Model A side...

Sorry Got that wrong, the Part Number 3054 is Valve Spring '09-'27 Factory Number 431. Makes sense now, a valve spring or coil spring for brake part.

I'm not sure of the length,...but I do know that both ends
are conical shaped( well at least one end for sure), and the
end that hooks too the frame swivels inside the center of
the conical.

Anybody have a photo of this spring or were to buy one?

Dudley, T-3054 is a standard valve spring according to my books. From your description it sounds like you're hunting the brake retractor spring for a VE28...???

Yep.....your a sharp "kid".....I found the part number in the
Jan, 1, 1928 PPL.

If its a "T" part, there should be tons of them....you would think.

Thanks, Dudley

#3054 Valve spring.

I'm thinking that must be a misprint in the Jan 28 parts price list. Unfortunately, that's the only version that I have so I can't check the later ones. Maybe Pluck can check the later ones? That spring was missing on my Nov. 27 sedan when I got it so I don't have anything other than photos for reference, but from memory it sounds a lot like the rear brake shoe spring on a T. I'll dig around tomorrow and see what I can find.

Every parts book from 1909 on shows #3054 as a valve spring. The brake shoe coil spring (1909-1913) is #2570. The brake shoe coil spring (1913-1927) is #2570B.

Actually the T-2570-B only carries through 1925 (small drum rear ends) and the T-2570-C covers 26 and 27. The -B part is only @ 3 1/2" long (going off of memory here, so be kind) and the -C part is more like twice that. I'm almost positive that the spring Dudley is hunting is actually the T-2570-C, but the only ones I could put my hands on today are modern reproductions which I don't think are cosmetically like the originals. I know the originals from our speedster project are here somewhere but I can't find them to save my life.

Dudley, do you know how far it is from the stud on the framerail to the back of the brake linkage where this spring hooks? The T-2570-C springs are around 6" long, but I didn't think to go out back today and look at my early chassis to see if that would be about right.

Editing to add a couple photos. Sorry they're not that good but it might help someone recognize what Dudley's hunting.

The spring in question can be seen just above the wiring harness clip on the framerail in the center of this photo:

Here's a better photo showing the location, but the spring appears to be a replacement (doesn't have the tapered ends with a separate piece for the hook):

The Model A part number is A-2492 but the parts price list states that it's the same part as a T-3054. It obviously ain't a valve spring, so the price list must have a typo.

One source I've seen states that this spring is 5" long which doesn't match up to any of the versions of the T rear brake shoe springs, so I'm not sure what to think. Wish I had a better photo to share...

(A2492/T3054) Equalizer Operating Shaft Retracting Spring
{J.S.E28-‘97}: (x-Feb’28): brake return spring, attached to a large rivet located inside left frame rail behind center cross member
{Non JS}: (x- Feb21’28): 1-1/2” long x 13/32” diameter rivet; 3/8” hole left frame rail; spring 5”long; painted black
Measurements from original vehicle:
5-1/8" overall length
9/16" width

... and the journey continues!!! I know zero about "T"s but possible this was only on the '26-'27 vehicles, thus their scarcity? If anyone has a box full of these:eek:, I also need one!! NOS would be fine:)

Thanks for the better photo Charles. I've dug through every box of T stuff I have here and can't find the original rear brake springs off my son's speedster, but they're here somewhere. We bought new ones from Snyder's and I've put the originals away with all the spare parts. The new ones are right at 6" from center to center.

I checked the Ford Parts Price List for October 1, 1928, and it
included the wrong part number again.

Any of you Gent's recognize that spring that fits a Model T?
