Repaint time - original vs. "cool original"

Hey there A'ers.

Repaint time -

New "cool original" color like Washington Blue/Tacoma Cream OR the original black?

Car dead stock '30 Deluxe Coupe - "Annie" has been in the family since 1958. Repainted by my Dad in 1979 with his favorite '31 Deluxe Roadster color of Washington Blue & Tacoma Cream. I vote for the original all black with the five wheels painted the optional and orig. very dark green. Blackwall tires then and now of course!

Family says - stay with the updated 1979 colors - I vote for all black -etc.

Your thoughts greatly appreciated -

Thanks -

SHEC :D

Black would be correct per the JS, not your current colors. There were no blue '30 deluxe coupes.

I have had an all-black '30 Coupe, and I liked it ! However, I have always expecially liked the Washington Blue of the Roadsters, and have always wanted to have a '30 - '31 Dlx. Coupe of that color. So I would vote for the sportier Washington Blue. You can always tell the critics that you have a Roadster with the rare optional accessory 'California Top', which was indeed an accessory for the open cars of the '20's.

700rpm: I am sure that SHEC is aware of that, but we are not talking about 'Judging Standards', but rather 'family choice'. I suspect that a stronger influence to the color choice would be the choice of the youngest member of the family, who is most likely to inherit the car.

Doug, he asked for our thoughts, and I gave him mine. I personally like black cars (see my avatar), but if it's a family choice it doesn't hurt to have factory data as part of the equation. The youngest member might like pink! I hope in any case the democratic model prevails and the majority wins the vote.

SHEC, Buddy, Dog:cool: here,
Be yo' OWN MAN & paint it thu kolor YOU want, ur you'll be sorry!
Ol' Bill likes BLACK, but DON'T let that "sway" you, if he had more "MAD" muney, he'd paint Vermin ALL BLACK! But whut else kuld you expect frum a guy thet drives a BLACK truk, with BLACK tires, wears BLACK skivies, socks, has BLACK sheets, pillows, comforter, & is gonna' git BLACK towels & them rag goodies!:D

Black isn't my favorite but sure can have an impact! Yep, time to repost pics of Jim Boehmke's '31 Standard Coupe. Like me, Jim isn't exactly fond of Apple green so he substituted vermillion like pre-September 1930 cars.

I prefer black for a coupe. Here is my old black 31 standard coupe. My daughter has it now. She called me a while ago and said she had just been offered ten thousand dollars for it. She told the person that its not for sale at any price.

I would go with the family vote-keep um interested and the kids get the car someday anyhow.

Why be selfish in life? :)

Absolutely stunning. What a beautiful car.

Marco - great pictures! car is stunningly black! love how it just feels at home with the era of house and all the green stuff.

For me, personally, nothing is more beautiful as an all-black Model A. But since nobody knows what the original colors of your car were, and nobody can find out if you paint the car right -- meaning body off and all old paint off -- you can paint it any color you like. However, if you ever want to sell the car, I would suggest to opt for a color that was available for that model and year from the factory.

I'm not for black but that sure is a nice looking car in black. That strip and great paint job make it.

The question is, what do you/family prefer? If its YOUR car paint it what you want, if its the FAMILY's car, paint it what they want. To heck with "original" if original is not what you want. If it was painted in 1979, as far as pretty much every LIVING being is concerned, blue IS the original color, seeing as probably almost no one is left who remembers it any differently. My car was last painted in the 50's. As far as I'm concerned, it is original. (actually it was nearly the same, just a slightly different shade)

I really like black cars... I own 3 that are black. However... Washington Blue has always been my favorite shade of blue for old cars. That said, keeping your families interest and holding true to my dad would be waaaaay more important to me than my personal preference. Either way its gonna look great! Win, win for you.

If you need a tie-breaker: Black paint is usually less expensive than other colors, and a single-color paint job is less work.

Doug

THANKS GUYS - so far a very interesting mix of responses. Maybe, if I get brave, I will post photos of the car currently in the Washington Blue vs. an original 1958 black and white picture of me, Dad, and Annie, the original owner - back in '58 with the car in all her original black and white glory.

Keep the input coming - we are really enjoying the beautiful photos of your cars and the great opinions. The Standard Coupe pictures are stunning! Thank you for sharing Jim's gem.

Be well -

SHEC

BTW - you can find my car pictured in Peter Winnewisser's THE LEGENDARY MODEL A FORD- book #2. Honored to be included.

I love my coupe ('28 Special) in black with white walls and Chrome radiator shell, horn, light bar, and headlight buckets. Drove it to work this morning, and as alway, horns beeped approval and I got thumbs up from the homeless. :)
I'll post a pic later, as I'm loving the pics of these coupes. Someday mine will get a new top and paint.
