I have a new Isky 77B cam. Someone else has installed gears. Front gear has an indicator mark but cam does not. Is this to be a problem. Pics are of this cam and another with indicators on cam and gear. Thanks Bill

I think your asking if the rear gear needs marks, and the answer is no. Only the front marks are necessary for indexing.

Often wondered this myself. I've installe many a cam gear and found thet it really doesn't make a differance, as far as I know?? I bore out early cams press in a 3/4 steel adapter and machinr it to except the 8BA cam gear and I've never had a problem timing the engine. The next time I degree in a cam I'll check to see what this represents and how important it is.

Its not important, since you turn the distributor to adjust the timing.

But i think you need to have the marking facing forward to get the distributor turn in the right direction think its "clockwise".

yes the gear is on facing the correct direction. I have about 20 cams here and all have markings on gear and cam except this one. Thanks guys I guess I will use as is. Bill

If you turn the gear around it will still turn the dizzy the same way, yes the mark should face front but it won't make a difference to the way the dizzy turns.
Martin.

Yup, just like reversing a fan blade around WILL NOT blow the air the opposite direction. DD
