What diameter tire for '36 with droped axle?

With a CE front end kit with reversed eye spring looks like the total drop is around 3 1/2", any opinions on what max diameter tire I could run on 15' rims? Looking at the 205/75R-15 BF Goodrich that has a 27.1" diam., I like it because it has 5.8" tread vs. 4.6" on the 165R-15; thinking the larger tread would improve cornering, am wondering if it is too tall. They both have the same section width.

With that type of setup I would use a 185X65-15 or a 195X65-15. Thant's normally what I have used with a 4" axle and reversed eye spring.

I normally use 195/65X15 on the front of all my cars and trucks. Usually 235/75X15 on the rear. Works for me and I have run some cars that were lower than usual in the front.

I am running the CE kit with reversed eye on my 35 Coupe and run 205/65/15 on the front 25.5" tall. And run 235/70/15 on the rear 27" tall.
Sits real good and they look good in the gaurds. I also have the CE spring kit in the rear.

I, too, am looking for tires for my '36 with a dropped axle. Any chance any of you guys could post a side shot of your cars with the tire specs?
Thanks,
-Bob

Bob,
Check out my album, there is a side picture of my 35 with the cops. I will post a better picture when it stops raining over here.
I have 6" rims on the front and 7" rims on the rear. Both 15"
The diff measures face to face 56.5". I have a 9" diff which has had the pinion centered .
Hope this helps out.

love the look building 1935 ford phaeton would like to lower same as your ride.Is that a 6" drop new to vintage ford stuff

Clearance problems as caused by the type of brakes you use. If you adapt discs, they move the wheels out about an inch. As far as aesthetics, you want a wheel and tire combo that fills the wheel well at the ride height you end up with. 2 cents worth of advice.

Hi, Redbluffjoe
Front -Chassis engineering 4" dropped axle, with 40 model wishbone, which lowers the front around another 3/4".
Rear - Chassis engineering leaf spring kit with 2" lowering blocks.
Sits and drives real nice.
If you require any other chassis or vehicle pictures of anything, just PM me.

I like the BF Goodrich radial's! I have a set of them that I run sometimes with my Torque Thrust wheels. I used them for my first three years as a daily driver and they still look decent!

Hey Pete What width axle did you use,and the width ( C to C) between the perch pin holes? I've got a monoleaf to put in my 36 coupe and the axle is 47 1/2" I think with 38 1/2" perch pin holes.

Do not go too wide , stay around 195 max. We fitted low profile 195x60 15 to our 37 and there was not enough side wall flex and steering was very heavy when stationary. It gave the frame and box a hard time. I would recommend 185 70 15 . It will still give you the hot rod stance and handling. We currently have 185 70 15 on a 4" axle on our 37 coupe.

Hey Topsterguy,

Really cool looking Pickup. My axle is a Chassis engineering 47 1/2" at King pins and 34 1/2" ( C to C ) at perch bolts. 40 model split bones.

Thanks! Great driver too! I have an older "more drop" 3" axle in my '36 and yesterday I took the old spring out and put a new monoleaf in. I was wondering if it would drop it enough or whether I'd have to get a new axle to go with the mono. No problem , it came down almost 2" with the mono and now sits right where I like 'em! There IS a Santa Claus!!:)

What would be the max diameter that would fit under the front fenders? It seems like most of you are staying in the 25" to 25.5" range, but can you go taller if you stay narrow?

The reason I'm curious - the truck in the link below has 525-16 tires which is around 26.5" tall. Is this too tall? Do you guys have extra clearance with your 25.5" tall tires?

Whoa! What a cool truck! Yeah I'd bet he's using 4 or 5" wheels and a narrower tire. I have the same tires and wheels on my 36 coupe and the turning radius is tight because the tires hit. I have mustang IFS on the 40 and a 47" dropped axle on the 36.
