Newbie to A models

Gday from OZ.

Bought an original mostly unrestored june 28 tourer 2 weeks ago.

Has seats amateur recovered and a new roof decades ago is all.

My first A model.

It had an irregular miss and took days to find it.

It is either the points or condensor.

Have ordered an upper plate with modern points/condensor.

It is 12 volts pos earth with powerhouse genny and seems to be charging fine.

A little high in amps, so I will bring that down a bit.

The coil is a black ford script and an A inside an irregular marking.

How can I tell if this coil is 12 or 6 volt?

And, if it is 12 volt OR I have to get another one, what points and plug gap should I use with the modern points/condensor?

Would .020 and .035 be wrong for a modern system?

Am getting a new motometer as old one is dead, how high should an A temperature run on say a 25C day?

Does the motometer rise much with no thermostat?

How does one put a pic of car as avatar here?

here is car....

You may be new to A's, but it is obvious you know about cars. Hang around here and you will flourish in this noble pursuit.

Very nice car but don't believe "Possibly one of the the most complete original un molested and historically authentic A Models in the world."

Makes no difference if it's old or new the point gap is .22 for new points for a gap of .22 to .18.

The spark plugs are .35.

Motometer is unreliable most if not all have them for show only.

The coil for a 6 volt unit will have 1.2 ohms restance in the primary and 3,200 and 4,400 ohms on the secondary.

Very nice! I see it's rh drive but starter in original location, do you reach waaay over with foot to step on starter rod or is there a hand mechanical link? Just curious. Thanks.

i think the button is on the left still ,cant remember its been a long time since i had my phaeton ,but what about the choke position on the LHD car is that on the right middle of tank ?the throttle position ,choke etc are right on for RHD cars ,,my son has bought a 28 coupe LHD ,being delivered next week ,will do some pics ,i havent seen it yet ,but its a good driver ,

The left hand side starter pedal was only on early 28 RHD cars, from late 28 onwards, the starter pedal was mounted on the flywheel housing with the pedal coming through the firewall in front of the gear stick. I've seen a nice owner made mod with an extension mounted on the side of the dash panel and operated by hand. The outboard handbrake lever was moved to a gearbox mounted item around the same time as the starter pedal was moved.

Yup, starter pedal is straight in line, have to reach wayyy over.

Have another Q.

I went to adjust genny third brush and thought clip came off sideways, but obviously it don't.

Does one have to prise the clip out of its hole at the top and bottom?

Is getting back on easy?
