Lawson and I have asked this question a couple of times before, but here goes again; WANTED any picture or any scrap of an ORIGINAL mat for a 35 or 36 pickup. We need this for research on the restoration manual we are working on. The original mat is tan(or gray) and has a starburst pattern. The mat is different for 35 than 36, but I do not know the exact difference. We will buy any piece of mat in any condition. Help us with this research.

Yeah, help us out here fellows. We are always looking for properly documented info of any kind on 35-36 Ford Pickups.

Guys, My research at the BFRC (Archives) indicates that the 1935 pickup mat (50-810400) was tan with a splatter pattern from edge to edge and no rope border. Job 1 for 1936 used the 67-810400 mat which was identical to the 35 mat including color and splatter pattern except the transmission tower hole was relocated to accommodate the 36 ******. I also found an engineering change notices EC-8128 & E-778 from Budd Co. detailing the change from a tan mat to a black mat in December of 1935. EC-8128 (12/7/35) introduced a black mat (67-810400-B) to be used on some pickups and specified that the tan mat (now 67-810400-A) would also be used on some pickups and panel deliveries. E-778 (12/24/35) followed up later adding an "R" to the tan mat (designating it as a replacement part) and advised the plants to use up their tan mats and begin using the black mats ASAP and as available.

Hey, thanks Don, but we would still like to find a piece of one that we can hold and inspect, if possible. Lawson

Don, I have an engineering drawing of 50-810400A that shows a rope bead and a 1.75 flat around edge of mat. As you know the print quality of these drawings was (and is) very poor so I cannot make out the date on the print. Where did you get the color information--engineering change?

Jerry, The color information is on the engineering drawing itself, right under the title. I also found info on some of the component drawings. 50-810400 is an assembly consisting of (3) components. 50-810412 (mat), 50-810404 (jute backing), & 50-810414 (reinforceing patch around starter button cut out) I also got some info off of 50-820402 & 50-820403. These are the drawings for the side mats used in 1935 panel deliveries.
