Replacing a window

I got my new glass for my front driver side window. I have a 28 briggs body. Any one know how to change the glass or the best place to look for how to do it? I have a few parts taken off the door but havent had a good look at it yet. How difficult is it?

I may be wrong, but others have posted about taking top off of door and then it will come out. But I can't remember which model they were talking about. Have you done a search? Just trying to help, I'm sure someone else will chime in.

Remove 2 screws & top lid from door.
Loosen regulator assembly and tilt it so that the guide roller exits the lower channel.
Re & re glass like a piece of toast.

Don't forget to lube the channel, & the regulator, at all moving points...it's probably been running dry for 80 yrs(and done surprisingly well of it) but when this one's finished you're stuck with Tiawan which isn't even close in metal quality.
Last week I replaced the offshore regulator in a 34 Ford because it was completely worn out after less than 3 years. We looked at the holes where the arms pivot, and they were eggshaped by 1/4"....also the crank gear & brake was just a handfull of metal filings.
Sorry bout the rant...lubrication seems to be a dying practice and I'm determined to save the world from seizing up! :) ;)

Better hold off for more information. The early Briggs fordors have a solid wood frame across the top with a metal cover, but removing the cover won't do anything but reveal solid wood. I disassembled some doors quite a few years ago but can't remember for sure what all would be involved if you're just replacing the glass, but I'm just about positive you have to work on the inside of the door rather than the top.

I remember seeing the procedure for fordor glass replacement posted on someone's webpage. If no one else pipes up I'll see if I can find it, or look for some pictures I took when doing the disassembly. Good Luck.

that sounds great thanks. I thought i had to work from the inside and take the window trim off but im not sure of the details.

Not positive, but I think the link posted above may be the one I was thinking of - just glanced at it and not sure if anything there is relative to your situation or not. I can't come up with anything else anyways.

Not sure how much help these might be, but I'll attach a couple of pictures I saved from somewhere as well as one I took when I was disassembling a door for parts a few years back. If nothing else they'll show you whats in there and what to expect if you still have upholstery, etc. in place.

Good luck.

Sorry bout the missinformation.
I forgot the Briggs had all that wood. :o
I would take out the regulator from the bottom...looks like a simple job, and see if the glass slides down & out.
You might have to pull out the channel run felts to fanagle the glass around.
It might even go in through the window opening with the felt runs pulled out, then the felt can be slipped down the track later.
Good luck and please let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the info and the pics. It will be tomorrow and wednesdays project depending on how difficult it is. Thanks again

I have a 29 TS and the window regulator is mounted on metal. Yours is mounted on wood.
The wood will have to come out with the regulator attached to it. You have 5 wood screws in the wood that hold the wood to the wooden frame. You have 2 screws that hold the latch on the end of the frame. These seven screws will have to come out. The inserting of the glass with the lower rail and runs should be no problem.
I hope this helps

Ronnie thanks for the info was gonna look today but the girlfriend wanted to hang out and have lunch so hopefully tomorrow.

I got the old window out and the new one in with no problems. It was actually a lot easier then i had thought, atleast for a briggs body. Just unscrew the 7 screws plus the 2 that hold the latch to the wood (it makes it easier to shimmy the wood out of the door. Push the window all the way up, pull the leftside felt out of the channel and the window and felt will squeeze out above the lower channel. You have to wiggle it a little but it clears. Then i popped the old glass out of the regulator channel using some kroil and a screw driver for leverage. I then pulled the wolding off of the bottom of the old glass, put it on the new glass and using a rubber hammer i tapped the lower channel onto the bottom of the new glass, spraying it with kroil here and there. I lubed up the window regulator put the glass back in the way i took it out, screwed everything back together and i now have a new window.

Thanks for all the help, suggestions and pictures.
