gear set

hello to all I have a question for all experienced ford barners. I recently acquired what is listed as 4;11 gear set. is there any way that I can insure that this is the case I need help on this as I was planning to change out the gears to obtain a bit more speed, also installing ford f150 ****** thanks to all

To check count teeth on each gear, divide pinion into ring gear gives ratio to 1. 4:11 to 1 however will be a LOW ratio for power not speed. 3:54 or 3:27 are the high speed gears. Phil

Count the teeth on both gears and divide the pinion count into the crown count should tell you the ratio.

What's the overdrive ratio of the ****** going into the car?
Most people keep the stock 3.78 rear end when installing the F-150 overdrive.

Most are 73 % in 4 th or overdrive. 4.11 X .73 = 3.003
I'm guessing that would be 1.27:1 in overdrive and I believe would be calculated as 4.11 / 1.27= 3.24:1 (rounded). I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. That would make 3.78 gears 2.98:1.

Here is an excerpt from an earlier post:

I am running a F150 with a 28% OD and a standard 3.78 rear end. She cruises comfortably at 65mph and has plenty of east Texas hill climbing ability. High compression 5.5 head. Oversize 1.73 intake. Ported. Zenith carb. B cam. Balanced and counterbalanced. At 65 the engine turns a comfortable 2250rpm.
