Can You Imagine!

Can you imagine if all the original stashed early Ford parts that we are "collecting" (frames, blocks, engine parts, bodies, body parts, grills, lights, bumpers, etc. combined with some unknown "stuff" to be found + plus some essential reproduction parts like interior, glass, wiring, rubber and the like, ... was all assembled in one place at one time....how many early Ford classics could be re-assembled for the world to see!?!?  :D

I agree it is probably an incredible amount. That's why, as we all age out we should sell off the stuff we will never use. I don't want the parts etc. I have collected and treasured over the years to wind up going for scrap because no one knows what it is. Not gonna use it?...Sell it! Get a reasonable price so there is no reason to re sell. I try to sell to folks I KNOW are going to put it into use on their car not re-sell for profit.

I was looking at my collection the other day of generators, starters, carburetors, a transmission and three flathead engines. Enough to carry me over into the next millennium. Why do I hoard these treasures? A comfortable feeling I suppose, I don't really know...

Generally, I think folks like to save old parts because it reminds them of some of the best years of their lives and gives them the satisfaction of being "connected" to the hobby they really like.

Good parts stash!!! I even have a stash of used, worn out parts. Bearings, pistons, rods, pumps! No good but I don't want to scrap them. Even have a rebuilt 8ba to go in our 46 which has a strong engine and will not need replacement in my lifetime. Plus just picked up a Mercury engine to rebuild and stash away.
Old car guys are like squirrels.

Ok If I Have a STASH of Parts thats all right
But if I HOARD Parts that is O so " WRONG "

MY favorite expression is ::: MINE / MINE / MINE

And How long do you have to save JUNK before that same collection becomes
"RARE" PARTS ??????

I am making lists of notable parts and their current value and what they fit. If I fell over dead this afternoon my son might look at my NOS 40 Ford electric clock and think it is just a garden variety clock, looking at the face it really doesn't look any different.

I just had a similar conversation with a friend, and us Ford guys are lucky to have all the parts and reproduction stuff available like we do. I know guys who had cars where you can only buy tires for it, and you have to make the rest of it your self. And just like you guys i have a tiny barn full of stuff for the running cars and the ongoing projects. And so does all of my friends.
But i`ve experienced that even though most guys i know squirrel away stuff with Ford on it, we all seems to be helpful when one of the other Ford allied is missing something for their cars. I think most interest groups are like that.
I`ve given away stuff just to see these beautiful cars on the road again, and to me that is what it`s all about.
And yes between us Ford guys and parts stock around the world i think we could build quite a few cars. :)

I'm still pretty young. And am building a pretty good collection of project cars and parts. I'm lucky that I live in a area where there is still a bunch of stuff to be found. And not many after it. But if something happened to me my wife would not know what to do with it.

I just cleaned out a 45 year stash. Got rid of parts I will never use as I am getting too old and feeble to restore another one. Gave all my stuff to other younger guys who are getting into old Fords. They were thrilled! Made me feel so good. Better than selling them.

The guy they sell the lot to for $500 will appreciate it. :D

So, why don't we each post to a single thread in the parts for sale specifically for each year. Then folks can go there and look for the missing stuff they need and you can clean out your pile.

Risk is the scum bags who only want to grab stuff to sell at swap meets will try to suck up all the goodies.

I'll post my 36 stuff so you can see an example. Pictures and prices will be a big help.

If you have more 36 stuff, add it to my thread. You can edit it as stuff gets sold.

Great subject! I have assisted several families with estates, and it is not pleasant. If the fellows had just put tags on everything, It's cheap ,easy and a good Winter effort. Newc

Ive been selling stuff for the past 5 years. A few items sold, but there is a lot of small stuff and common stuff that doesn't move quickly. I 'm selling tools on Craigs list and parts on Ford Barn.
A few years ago I helped the widow of an old friend clean out her garage. Her sons suddenly took an interest in a lot of the tools but not the parts. I helped her get rid of some items and put $1600 in her pocket.

It's kinda like they say on the pickers show, half the stuff you don't even remember you have. I frequently see guys pull a box down in their own garage and say they don't even know what the stuff is. At a minimum throwing a tag on that says the year and Ford or whatever is a good idea. My Dad has Mack parts, tractor parts, car parts, dozer parts…. I wouldn't even have enough of a description to list on EBay.

Hoarders are people with serious mental issues that have a bunch of spare parts they will never use.
Collectors are well balanced good guys that have a bunch of spare parts they will never use.
I am a collector - I think.
