Tire change on my 36'

Thanks Vic. It actually drives a bit better too.

It doesn't look as dramatic in the pictures, but I'd say it dropped it 2.5" in the front and 2" -/+ in the rear. The fenders just cover the tire and look "more" centered in the fenders also. The front with the 6.50 tire still clears the fender at full turn!

Best part it cost nothing to do!

I'm not sure the purpose of the plastic between the leafs, maybe for anti-squeek? At first I thought it was because the ubolts may have been stripped at the top... but nope. ubolts where in excellent shape. Although the floors on this car where covered with sheetmetal and the floors are in decent shape, so who knows what they were for.

Thanks, i might put a leaf back in and use a 2" drop axle to get a bit more. Believe i can do that without drop arms. Which i really dont want to do, i would like to keep the spindles as is.

The Poly strips between the spring leaves is to reduce friction and give a smoother ride.

Your probably right. Rides very nice now although there was some worn shackle bushings that where replaced too. Just thought it was an interesting approuch to a problem.

Not sure on the 2" drop with stock steering , should work. I do know a SO Cal brand axle will clear stock steering arms , but I think these only come in a 4" drop.
We had a 34 with the same Teflon strips between the leaves to aid slip for a better ride.

That car is a beauty. Can anyone explain how you measure the drop on an axle.Ive heard that if You have a 4" dropped axle you count this drop from a straigt axle.If you have a 32-36 axle it allready have at least 1 inch drop, that means a 4"axle will lower your front about 3",am I right?

There was a model A on the hamb that the guy had mech brakes and a drop axle... maybe a completely different animal.

The 36 here is set up with 39 hydros.

Thank you though

2inches I think...I sold one a bit back...will look for the link in the classifieds here, pretty sure I showed it with a tape to compare.

Edit:

I'd laid a broom handle across for the pics...maybe tomorrow I'll putt out a factory one and compare.
