NOS Tillotson X in original box

I might have a chance to get a true NOS Tillotson X carburetor coming up at an auction. It is still in the box and has the paperwork inside also. The box is marked 6.86 I wonder if that was the original price. What is a fair price for one of these? Would any of you use this on a car or just keep it for a display item?

I think $125 would be at the top of the mark as far as how much I would bid. Yes, If I had one I would use it. Rod

I don't think that it should be used. It would be worth a lot more unused. You can always use it, but, like they say, "It's only original once".
Once you use it, it is only a run of the mill, used Tillotson.
It is not a Genuine Ford part, but they are a big part of the "A" Model's history.

About 8 years ago I was offered an NOS Tillotson in the original box for $10. Stupid me didn't buy it.

What's the saying........"live and DON'T learn.:D:p

I see that Bratton offers a new Tillotson model X for $350.00.I bought a couple from JC Whitney in the sixties for $ 12.95 each, the best that I remember.. Ford sold the Tillotson XF which is the same carb for up to $125.00 in the seventies so i've been told. New Tillotson carbs run good for a while until they warp. Cast iron carbs seem to last forever.

I saw one go at a Auction this past summer (nos) for $125.00 I run across a couple in the box every year at yard sales and antique shops.

I agree. A properly re-built Zenith with the correct jets (like from Renner's) is a better carb than a Tillotson. And like one poster said, the minute you take it out of the box and slap it on your car it now becomes just another used Tillotson.

We are running a Tillotson for now, until we can get a properly rebuilt cast iron Zenith installed.

One one hand it's a Tilotson, on the other hand use it if you want. So it's NORS, it's a carb and was made to be used not sitting on a shelf gathering dust.

When I started the restoration of my A around 1988, I bought a new Tillotson X from Snyders--don't recall price. So, I don't think the item you're considering has the antique value you may be imagining it has. I don't know how long Snyders continued selling them.

It leaked terribly so I sent it back for full refund, bless their hearts. That's the kind of customer service that made me a life time customer for Snyders.

"I have a used one off a 1931 Model A . Previous owner seemed to like old music, but was otherwise decent."

Marc,
So, was the Tillotson "otherwise decent" or the previous owner. Old music is always decent. Previous owners, well???? I would gladly lighten your load and buy your Tillotson.

I did get the Tillotson at the auction and will post pictures sometime this week.

When I bought my 29 coup this year and it came with a box of parts and in it was 3 in the box Tilotsons and one Zenith in bad shape. I used one of the new carbs when I started it up after sleeping since 1974 and it leaked along with the sediment bowl, changed the bowl to a new glass one and tried the Zenith for kicks and it worked perfectly -----go figure.
Sold the other two new and 1 used for 200.00 and bought a few other parts that needed attention. No wonder the guy didn't dicker on the price.
