What are rules on swap meet?

Fellow posted something for sale. I posted that I'd take it and asked that he email me with who and where to send the money. He later posted "sold." I'm thinking it's me; especially since he didn't say otherwise.
Now I get a private message that "It's sold and gone."
How does that work? I thought that if you said "I'll TAKE it," you were buying it, period, per the site rules.
Did somebody change the game or did I dream this up?
I've got the particulars documented if you're interested.
Thanks,
Al

I don't know the "rules" but if you want something you PM or e-mail the person. Most people, myself included, don't check their ads on a regular basis.

Much agreed, PM's work best as there is a duplicate reminder sent to the persons e-mail address along with the popup when you log in the next time. I made the change to only be contacted by others on the barn with PM's. keeps everything in the same place without checking e-mails, PM's and subscribed threads. Having things scattered all over the place is no fun. Now if Ryan would make it so others can not respond to post on the Swapmeet, like he did on the HAMB it would be in same place all of the time. A member here can Subscribe to ANY Thread, and you can Subscribe to
ANY Ad, including your own ads by clicking on "Thread Tools" in the
reddish colored band at the top of the thread or ad.

When the "Thread Tools" menu drops down, you can Subscribe to the
thread or ad, and you can Also get Instant Email Notices, if you read
the menu carefully, and click the appropriate box.

By Subscribing to your own ad, and then getting an Instant Email Notice
when someone replies to the ad, you Don't have to keep checking your ad. ;)

You can UN-subscribe from them also, by clicking on "Thread Tools" :)

I like to be able to respond to posts on the swap meet. Sometimes it is something that potential buyers should see. If it is posted others will have the opportunity to respond to the accuracy of my post. Having said that I hate those people that respond with "PM sent" and push the ad back to the top.

What really gets me is the people who get something sold and think it requires a reply to their own add, instead of just edittiong it to read sold and delete all of the BTT's. I find that to be abit anoying. Once it is Sold, get the add out of the way and let it get buried. JMHO. Rod
