1936 ford truck help

One of the big misconceptions in the car culture over the past years...RatRod, HotRod, and Old School...have all been blurred together by younger folks getting into the hobby...it's places such as the HAMB that we see so much of this and folks are set straight and actually realize what they want is a Hot Rod, not a Rat Rod...just as the OP has.

So now that he has mentioned his real intentions, why not just assist him (as some have) and cease ridiculing him?

As "stock" as this forum is, at least 50% of the cars/trucks here are not "as Henry had'em made".

If you had bothered to read the posts since he posted his clarification, you'd change your tune.

OK here we go,I'm a 42 year old journeyman machinist, tool and die maker, electrician, mechanic, coal miner, with a craving to make things look cool and go fast. I've been into dirt track racing for about 20 years. Its time to slow down a bit but I can't stand to not have something in the garage to tinker with so I picked up this old truck.Just trying to carry on the gear head era from the older hot rodders, because whether you like it or not the punk *** kids following up my generation are going to ruin the hot rod era. They would rather have a cavalier with coffee can muffler.I though I would throw this at you to prove your not dealing with one of those punks, just a gear head like you. Thanks

sotto, I hope you're able to drop that last profession you listed soon. Climb on out of that black hole while you can and get busy with that truck.

I think you are the one who needs to re-read things...woud you like me to post his replies here?..

Yes?...

Okay...I will:

First reply: Wow!!! you must have a degree in car building.

2nd reply: I guess I should have used the words Old school hot rod instead of rat rod.I didn't realize there were so many high falooting sensitive people on here.sorry if you were offended. The truck isn't going to be a rust bucket junker,I just give up on trying to find steel fenders,I have everything else(don't want fiberglass)

3rd reply: I do agree billet is out dated.I do feel guilty not taking the truck back to its original look with some modern up grades because I plan on driving it alot on long trips,But I just can't come up with the fenders.I will not resort to fiberglass,So thats why I decided to go old school hot rod,Thanks

So why would I change my mind?

OP clearly stated "not Rat Rod"...spoke of oldschool Rod, which many here have...so please show me where I should have changed my tune?

Its all cool guys, gear heads need to stick together to keep the rod era alive. This is nothing compared to the dirt track forums, those guys can tear you apart.

BTW there is a recent thread on Fordbarn regarding a metalman who is making 35-37 Pickup Truck rear fenders, very X'y but all steel.

No tattoo's,But I do have an awesome beer belly and some scares!!! Me and my brothers built some ratty bicycles back in the day.( That's where most of the scares came from ) See you can tell my age because I now what a bicycle is.

Not a fan of fender less trucks as a hot rod myself as I don't ever remember seeing those on the streets from the 50s until the rat rod era.
Build the cab and frame the way you want or can afford but go ahead and put fiberglass fenders on it and start looking for steel.
The fenders will will eventually show up from a future rat rodder if you look hard enough.

Or be really cool and graft sedan sheet metal on the front like the 38 Ford Roadster pickup from Argentina. This is about as "cool" as it gets if you want to do something different:

In honor of punk *** kids everywhere I am going to follow in their footsteps and use the following exhaust tips on my '36:
