What do you recommend with the least problems with rebuilt stock suspension in a 1955 Ford F-100-- A Ford 351 W -- any pictures and advise who did it----- Thanks

Re: 351 into a 55 Ford P-UP

you can buy a kit for this as its a common swap.years ago you did it on the cheap by cutting the crossmember out of a 57 to 64 ford car and welding that in.

Both motors have the same motor mounts so they both fit the same tubular crossmember. The 302 is a physically "small" motor so the wider 351 looks more appropriate in the engine bay (just my opinion). As both these motors came in 4x4's
and vans there is a choice of rear and mid sump oil pans as well as stock cast iron exhaust manifolds that will clear the axle and steering box.

A 302 is light, inexpensive, and a very good little motor. A 351 W is light, harder to find, and is also a good motor. Both respond well to light modifications, such as a lumpier cam, better valve springs, a hot ignition, and a better exhaust. The 351 will pull like gangbusters through the mid range with a 260 adv, cam. A 302 just pulls a bit better. Transmissions and rear axle gears play in to the total package. Playing with these costs money, how hard do you want to play? I can say how I want mine, but we may not have the same thing in mind for the end game.

They both fit fine the 351W is slightly wider. I have lots of pictures of this swap and others on my 53 F100 build at vassh.com if you are interested.
