1956 Ford - Front end lift?

I know this is inconsistent with a common practice of lowering the front end, but I'd like to raise mine about 2-3 inches.

I've always liked a higher stance and want to put some bigger tires on the Fairlane, probably 225 or 235 70R15s.

I have the original stock springs on the car now, and when I got it aligned the guy told me the springs were weak, and that one side was about 1" lower than the other. So I'm gonna replace 'em, rather than mess with trying bags (air lifts) or spacers.

I am also replacing the rear springs, and already have Gabriel air shocks back there.

Has anyone lifted the front end of their '55-'56 Ford 2 or 3 inches by replacing the springs? If so, what did you use?

As you knowthe Aerostar springs will work in 1949-59 cars but will lower it rather than raise it,this tells us that 1949-59 springs are the same diameter.Look up the front springs for a 1958-59 Station wagon with a 352 also replace the spring rubber and that should do the trick.I would give Eaton Spring a call in Detroit, Phone is 1(313)963-3839 been around since 1937 they should be able to crossreference a spring for you.

thanks Jeff. I had everything replaced except the springs on the front end including the rubber insulators. I'm in the Detroit area so I'll check out Eaton spring and maybe stop by there soon.

Kinda sounds like a Superstock/Street Gasser look from the '60s. I've thought about putting lowering blocks in my Falcon and leaving the front end alone for the same reasons.

Once you get it lifted, you'll need to have it aligned again.

Well I don't want to and won't let the front end be higher than the back; I expect it to have a slight rake to it. I recollect some cars in the early & mid 60s that had a slightly higher than stock stance, I thought it looked killer back then and that's what I'm looking for.

And yes, I'm aware that front spring replacement will require realignment.

Thanks for the tips

Ron

Ron, I put new coils on the front of my 51 back about ten years ago. I agree with you on the higher stance, never liked the dropped front ends. I think I got my coils from Kanter in NJ. As I remember it wasn't a bad job installing them (used a spring compressor) and realignment wasn't needed as it brought it back to new car height.

Good luck, Barry
