Anyone tried this? Post shut down cooling.

To approximate the TOTAL volume of fuel inside that roughly 12" long 1/4" line....only about 0.58905 cu. in. of fuel. Also keep in mind that relieving the pressure ONLY relieves.....the PRESSURE......a mere dribble. The entire volume of that line will NOT empty into the bowl as a result of merely relieving pressure. DD

I'm starting to see some resemblance between some of the "prima donnas" on this forum to Buzz Lightyear - taking themselves and their quest to be right and revered way too seriously. To them I repeat the words of Woodie:

YouAreAToy_zps347e7bfa.jpg

"This . . . is . . . a . . . HOBBY! This is not the "Macho Men Pageant!" This is supposed to be FUN! So, quit taking everything, especially your own ego and self image so seriously. CHILL OUT and LIGHTEN UP!"

ol henry you need to be sticking to what you know best and stay off this site because you just do not take advice

Funny.
In response to my intitial simple question "Anyone tried this? What do you think of this idea?" I have received the following "advice":

1. Your fan idea is a stroke of genius. But, run it but directly off the battery instead of the kill switch. #2

2. Use the fan to pull through the radiator instead of push through it. #3

3. Install in line valve to shut off to run the gas out before you get home so it won't boil. #5, 6, 10, 11

4. Don't run the fan - it will just spread the fumes. #6

5. Don't do anything but just raise the hood. #7

6. Find the gas leak. #8

7. Park the car outside until it cools. #10

8. Install Skips pumps. #14

9. Rebuild the carburetor. #22

10. Use a Viton tipped float needle valve. #30

11. Don't use a Viton tipped float needle valve. #40

12. Put thicker gaskets between the carb and intake. #34

13. Do nothing. Just enjoy the aroma. #36

14. Just get an air freshener to hang up. #42

15. Drill a hole in the fuel pump to relieve the pressure. #43, 47, 60, 72

16. Adjust the float level. #53

17. Install a recirculating fuel line. #55

18. Fill the oil bath air cleaner fuller. #58

19. Reduce the fuel pressure. #61

20. Buy alcohol free gas. #62

21. Quit asking questions. #74

22. Issue gas masks. #76

I'm just curious which "advice" it is that I'm expected take and which I shouldn't. In fact, I have not finally rejected any of that advice (except maybe issuing gas masks) but am still considering all of it and will ultimately accept some and reject others. Is that OK? Or, am I to just do it all without question? Whada ya say, Buzz?

Well Henry, Here's a list of the "Prima Donnas" You've managed to "tick off"
Not in any particular order, and I may have missed some.
Hopefully I haven't mis interpreted any of them.

Back to your first post. What does anybody think of the idea?
I think it's a BAD idea, with out first taking on board some of the good ideas you have been offered.
BTW. the phenolic spacer will help to some degree at least, (no matter who made it)
A little bit of "thanks for your knowledge and the time you've invested in me" would have gone a long way.
Cheers.

Thanks Buzz.:)

P.S. See posts # 67 and 69 for the other thanks.

P.P.S. What about G.M.? Isn't he part of the P.D. club? :)

well ol henry i think you have just showed your true colors this forum from what i gather is to help people but you tick off everyone who trys to help i think its about time you bought a chev so you can p..s them off with their help

I'm wondering, when pressure builds in the line from pump to carb due to heat expansion, just how much volume would be required to relieve that excess pressure? Surely not so much as to overflow the float bowl, as there is very little volume in that short 1/4" line to begin with.

A related question here, the Shewman flexline with the checkvalve would contribute to an over-pressurized carb line. I never saw a need for a checkvalve there anyway.

Read the Fords service manual test procedure of the return valve in the pump and you will find out why Shewman's check valve in the fuel flex line helps. The valve must not leak back to zero in less than one or two minutes to be good. That's not a very good valve in my opinion. G.M.

Prof., I've been reading the replies offered, with respect to your initial post, and my observation (for what it's worth ) is that there have been a number of suggestions, some obviously gleaned from actual driving experience, some extremely analytical (which is not necessarily a bad thing) and some that are meant to be humorous (which is necessarily a good thing;)). I tend to agree with you that there are some people on the forum who have to be right (regardless of their actual experience) and look with rancor toward anyone who would dare question the validity of their statements, that is not unique to this forum.:( However, I would respectfully suggest that you continue to drive and enjoy your car (keep posting those beautiful photos :)) and just embrace the aromas emitted as part of the overall driving experience. I'm looking forward to your next post of "Road Trip" photos. Vic

Craig, old henry, send me the pump and i'll replace the valves with Brand new NOS valves and send it back, just pay shipping both ways so we can eliminate a possible weak valve problem, lets get out of the way. ken ct. N/C for the valves or labor.

Thanks for the offer Ken. That is very kind. But I often have both mechanical and electric pump going when I've had vapor lock. Mechanical pump is new.

well ol henry i think you have just showed your true colors

Lots of true colors coming out.
At least we now know who some of the members of the Secret Society of Prima Donnas* is.
Lest you think you're in the majority I share this PM just received:

"Henry, don't loose heart, and don't leave here,
Man I love your posts and you, like me use your old ford like it should be.
I always show my family your trip posts, and the one with the picks of Yosemite was instrumental in my son and daughter in law making the trip there.
I don't know why some folks get so worked up over things, as you said this is a hobby and life is TOO short for that sort of agro.
Take Care ."

Excuse my ignorance, but I'm trying to work out why a check valve in the fuel line would help. There are two one way valves in the fuel pump. Is the external valve a good idea because the clack valves in the pump are not really good enough to act as a non return valve? I must admit I do have to prime my pumps every time to get the fuel up from the tank.

Mart.

If the mechanical pump is operating correctly there is NO reason an additional check valve is necessary.

The mechanical one could be the problem.new ones from overseas seem to be putting out too much pressure. How much pressure does the elec. one put out. Most ford carbs are happy with 2 - 2 1/2 lbs. offer still stands.I dont understand these few guys objecting to this thread. Its a diff story when they need help. ken ct.

henry....I concede! All that stuff about HEAT.....I'm probably wrong! Your idea in YOUR first post.....great idea! It should "fix" ALL of your problems! You never even needed to ask. I have no info of any value for ya. Sorry! DD

DD, It was actually your lengthy discussion about heat that got me to thinking more about the cause and solution to my problem other than my original proposal, particularly the idea that the heat is not likely the only cause but is aggravating some other underlying problem. Your words were not wasted, nor was anyone else's, and I thank you for them again as I did in my post immediately after yours (#66 & 67).:)

V8COOPMAN, You are one of only a few guys that I tend to read religiously. Like the "few others" your advice is obviously well thought out and nearly always backed by proof. While (too many) folks have opinions, it seems to me, very few have opinions worth sharing.
Forums are a place to learn. We all must sort through the poopy to get to the frosting. Nearly all of us have the ability to learn. Too bad many either don't care to learn or perhaps already know everything.
Why you continue to help certain individuals is telling of the person you are - a person that actually cares enough to share what knowledge you have gleaned through your life. I for one appreciate that sharing.
Why you continue in your attempts to help certain individuals I am not so certain of. Perhaps you are a glutton for punishment?
My advice is that you continue being the person you are and stop suffering the fool(s).
My hope is you never become so disenchanted with said fool(s) as to stop sharing your knowledge. THAT would be a shame.

Kube...I'm trying to keep from blushing, but thank you for the kind words. Makes me feel that my efforts are at least appreciated by those with some reasonable savvy. Interestingly, I WAS sort of "punished" a while back, but that's another story...thanks again! I kinda like reading your junk, too. DD
