A/C for model A's

If you only need ac make sure you get the ac only unit not the combo ac/ heater .There are about 36 rows of tubes in the evaporator . If you get the combo unit you give up six rows for the heater therefore compromising the capacity of the ac . I have the combo and it does not put out as much cool air as the ac only model.

I am right now installing Ken's kit in my '31 s/w sedan. The hardware was easy but the hoses leaving the evaporator to the compressor take some planning to make a neat install. Had problems with belt alignment and had to turn down the a/c pulley to get the belt back far enough. Have fun. Art

Art I have installed 4 of these and I always ran the hoses in the frame and then zip tied them up so they were out of the way.

I have the combo unit -- yet to be installed. Figured that the reduced capacity on the cooling side was worth the effort to have a heater in the same space. Since my rig is a PU, it should be adequate. Time will tell!

I'm thrilled with the A/C in my sedan. The hardest part (and this is still ongoing) is weatherstripping the doors for a good seal to keep the hot air outside.
If anyone knows of any good products please post. Thanks, Walt

This is what I used: Mac's Part # A701980HC1 (3/8") or A701980HC2 (5/8")

I really have to ask.

"because of Ken's unique design, this system does not affect the performance or temperature of the model “A” engine"

How is it possible for them to make this claim? I notice the power drain from the A/C on my 138HP modern car so how could you not notice it on a 40hp "A"?

I can tell you that that on the 4 cars I have installed or help to install this unit on that there was no noticeable degradation of performance. Nor did they run hotter. Now all of these cars run a high compression head and have what I would call a better than average motor.

With the condensor located in the rear of the car, nowhere near the radiatior as in a modern car, the heat transfer from the A/C doesn't affect engine temprature.

AC.......? In Alaska?

AC installation pictures.
No, it does not noticeably effect engine performance.
No, it does not cause the engine to overheat.
Yes, it does cool the Town Sedan very well.
