temperature gauge vs sender unit

Don, if you have a repop sender, it will never match the gauge. The closest you will get to a match is to bend the sender arm to match a known tank level to the gauge, and go seat of the pants from that single accurate reading. If the sender is original, though, it should read close to accurate through the whole range. Again, bending the sender arm to send the actual tank level is the only adjustment I know of.

These posts are confusing me??----Is the original question one of matching a temperature gauge to a fuel level sender??

Is it a 12 volt or 6 volt gauge? If the gauge indicates HOT when it is not powered it may work with the early V8 temp sender. If it indicates COLD when not powered a sender for a late '50 through '70s might do the trick. If you don't have any data on the gauge finding what works will be trial and error. I've used a variable resistor to figure out what some gauges respond to.

I've used the S-W gauges and you have to use an S-W sender. There should be a model number printed on the case of the gauge. Then do a websearch on that model number for the proper sender.

S W gauges are matched to the sender by temp range ie the high reading dealer can do this with cataloge Laurie
