condenser

Is there a fiber spacer that goes between the condenser and the lower distributor plate. The condenser grounds to the distributor on the side and there is a brass or copper screw that screws in the condenser on the other side of the distributor. I was told there had to be a fiber insulator washer on one side or the other of the distributor plate. If so, which side. I left it out and the points fire fine without it.

the fiber washer goes over the contact bar screw against the bar and the tip of the condenser. If fills the lower hole you look into from the driver side and prevents the contact bar from contacting the distributor base if it happens to vibrate over too closely, which can happen, especially if the ignition cable is screwed in too far.

Insulating washer should be super glued to tab of lower plate for easier installation. Early 1930-31 used a copper plated 10/32 x 3/8 screw and fiber washer.

thank you. If I understand, it goes between the condenser tip and bar on the passenger side of the car and the copper screw goes in the drivers side of the car though the bar into the condenser,

The condenser makes contact with the bar. The fiber washer needs to be super glued to the outer or left side of the contact bar of the lower plate . The fiber washer prevents grounding out against the distributor housing. The screw goes through the left or drivers side of the distributor, through the fiber washer, then through the matal contact bar and then threads into the condenser.

The screw should go through the insulating washer FIRST, then the buss bar, then into the condenser terminal. Be sure to use the correct screw, because if the screw is too long and bottoms in the terminal before the buss bar is tight, then the terminal can spin and ruin the condenser.

how long should the screw be? The condenser came with a copper screw.

A-20223........No. 10-32 U.S.F. x 7/32 rd. hd. bolt (Cad. P.)

This is how the screw is listed in my October 1, 1929 Parts Price List.

I would guess the screws sold today are 1/4" and should work fine.:)
