Hi Everyone, I need help on a problem that I'm sure has been addressed here before.
The amp meter on my '46 stock Ford shows no charge while running and when I turn the lights on it goes to negative amps.

The local auto elecric shop tested the generator and said it was good. They were afraid to mess with the regulator, so I installed a new postive ground regulator. Still no help--I did polarize the generator. The car has a new 6 volt Omptia battery. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Joe

What is the problem? Is the battery being charged,It isn,t being charged any other way and starts ever time.I my self don,t like amp meters and find a volt meter better. It tells low voltage, over charging to high. I had a car that did the same thing and its just the way it is.

It sounds like you have a good charged battery and a working charging system. With a stock electrical system you will have very little movement of the needle showing charging and with a load like the lighting system a negative indication is normal. It's working just like my stock '46 with a fully charged battery. Don't think you have a problem.

Thanks, I'll go to cruise night tomorrow.
