Clutch adjustment!!!!!

Put all new multiple disks in and throw-out bearing in...(going by my Dad's word).

The car runs great going down the road, but every time you go to shift, seems like the throw-out bearing is not doing it's job? Right now there is no play in the clutch pedal/lever.... Is that a bad thing and can/how do I remedy it?

Can't shift without grinding the gears!

Do you think it's just a quick linkage adjustment fix?

Are you double clutching? Also you could wait longer between shifts and single clutch, but I think it's easier to double clutch to prevent gear clash.

You should have about 3/4" play in your clutch pedal before it begins to engage. Adjust it with that threaded rod shown in your photo.

Okay....I'll try that.

When I drive it, I usually do double clutch it... I usually have no problems(a little!)

My Dad drove it today and he did not double clutch it.... resulting with my question!

I think I will take your advice about the 3/4 inch play in the pedal before engaging the clutch. I will start with 1/2 inch play 'cause 3/4 sounds a bit too much to me!
Thank you!

You don't want the release bearing riding on the fingers, the reason for the free-play. Normal free-play is 1 to 1.5 inches. 3/4 inch will work, 1/2 is a little too close. If double clutching on the upshifts stops the grinding, then I think you're just trying to shift too fast when not double clutching.

I adjusted it between 3/4 & 1 inch... Seems to be fine! I'll take her out for a test spin tomorrow....
Thank you!

Getting ready to pull the '26 Model "T" Roadster in the garage. My dad says it needs new bands and new starter. The last time he restored it was 50 years ago with his dad. They only put about 400 miles on it....then it sat since 1998 'till now.
Do you think I really need to replace the bands? Or, just adjust them if possible? I am delving into the "T" manuals like I did with the "A" to gain some more knowledge about it. I was too young back in the day when he was interested in the cars. This past Father's day I got the "A" running for him now that I'm back home. Needless to say, he was beside himself with overwhelming emotions! He now brought up the fact that if I'm so into these cars, that I should do the "T" while I'm at it!!!!! I am ready and willing! I thought I would ask you folks first about the "T" before I make unnecessary purchases.
400 miles on the bands....Still good?
the last time it ran we had to pull the car around the block to start it! New starter definitely!!!!?????

See my new thread under Model "T"

Thank you!

By ''belts '' do you mean the ****** bands??
The guys on the Model T forum part of FordBarn would like to help you with that.
good luck.

Since the T only has one belt, and it only runs the fan, there is not much pull on it. If it isn't hard or cracked it should be fine.

If your dad means BANDS, when he said BELTS, then I'd just drive the car and see how they feel. 400 miles on bands shouldn't be any problem.

Doot, What type of lube are you using in the transmission. The 600W sold through the dealers is what I have and seems to work just fine when the level is up and correct. Too little fluid and the trans will take longer to slow down, and complicate shifting. As the fellas above suggested, get some play in the pedal (at least an inch) and check the fluid.

Yeah, I'm using the 600w too! I Have it at the correct level.... I Adjusted the play to about 1 inch.(maybe slightly less).
I took her out yesterday and double clutched it and it was perfect!
Had to install a new rotor cam and adjusted the points again.....WOW! ..like a new car!!!!!

Thank you.
