Automatic trans for Model A's?

Does anyone make a kit to adapt an automatic transmission to a Model A engine? Thanks for any leads or other info.

I remember an article a couple years ago, in The Restorer I believe, about I fellow who installed an automatic so he could continue driving his A in spite of a disability. I'm sure if you contacted Jim Spawn at MAFCA he could hunt that down for you.

I have thought a ZF from a Peugeot wagon would be a good fit, they are short, have a separate bellhousing, made for closed torque tube driveshaft and the same valve body can work for a low horespower diesel ---or a 7 series BMW 6 cyl

I say this 'tongue in cheek' but I doubt there is a Peugeot Station Wagon in the whole state of Tennessee!! :p If a person did find a used transmission out of one of them, I can only imagine the look on someone's face when they were told what the transmission was. "A Pooo - what did ya say??" :D

We ran the article about doing the automatic a couple of years ago. Speed Gems was the company that makes the adapter. They have a website so google them.

I bought the one from Bert's. After doing lots of research on the subject of putting an automatic transmission behind a model a motor. I decided the kit that uses the mopar slant 6 904 transmission would be the way to go. I saw posts on both the ford barn and the hamb that said very successful hill climb racers use this trans conversion. I also saw posts saying that Bert's might have one for sale. I read many posts of nothing but praise regarding Bert's as a part's supplier. My initial call to them was very comforting as they seemed to be very knowledgeable and easy going. They also said they had preformed this conversion a few years back and it worked extremely well. Unfortunately I did not experience the great customer service others have and I thought I would. Currently I am still trying to acquire the flexplate that was supposed to be in the kit. After many phone calls and emails ( at least 2 months worth) to Bert's always saying they were looking for it or contacting the maker of the kit and promising me they would send it I sent them a final email stating I was done asking for them to make it right. I have contacted the guy who originally made the kit that I bought from Steve at Bert's. He said he will make me the flexplate I was unfortunately unable to get from them. I hope this guy will make me one and I will be able to use this kit I spent a lot of money on. If I get the flexplate and get it going I will let you know how it works.
