Another part that is made wrong from Mac's

I ordered a pair of front fender braces for my 39 ford pickup (to take advantage of there 10 % memorial day promotion) they would probably work if they were 3 3/8" longer although the bend is not correct the part # is 81C-16025. I guess I will ask if any one has had experience with a product before I place an order. It seems like 30% of the reproduced Items don't fit. :(

I've run into the same thing...have a box of non-fitting parts.
'40 front fender braces among the junk.
I'm sick of Chinese communist junk parts.
I look for original stuff now. Even if it needs a lot of work.

I glass beaded the one tonight; it would be usable it has pits 1/4 to 1/3 of the way through, I would prefer to find new ones. Any one have any experience with the 81C-16094 fender brace from Bob Drake? I will use the old ones if need be but it takes about an hour to glass bead and then I consider them marginal.

Oldrelics the original one measures 25 5/8" if I lay a tap on the upper (smooth side) when I put it next to a square I get 17 3/8 " on the long leg and 11" on the short leg. The one's from Mac's (81C-16025) are 22", 16 1/2" and 8 3/4". I have some rears that I got from Drakes and have not gotten to the point of installing yet Part # 81C-16341 that are 18 5/8", 13 3/8" and 8" maybe they are wrong too, I would appreciate if you could measure you rear fender brackets. I measured them all the same way total length following the contour then using a square height and depth.

Thanks for everybody's help

Brian

I guess I am a lucky guy because all of the repro stuff I bought while building my 40 coupe fit with the exception of the lower door seals, and Carpenter replaced them with good ones. I just bought stuff from Macs for my brothers F1 I am working on and it all fits and the shipping was no worse than any thing else shipped today. I just wish Dick Spadaro carried F1 stuff.

It's not that the part was made wrong but that you appear to have the wrong part. Either you ordered the wrong part or they sent the wrong part.
Why don't you hash it out with the supplier instead of starting a rant about being bad parts in this forum where no one can solve your problem.

I just bought two sets of gaskets for the crab dist from macks the cap gasket will go over the the hole dist, way to big.

As 51 MERC-CT pointed out I should not have mentioned the vender by name. I have called three different venders, Fender brace 81C-16025 is dimensionally the same from all three; but it is not the correct one for my truck. Mike in Mass Is sending me an original and I know a guy about 10 miles from me that has a 39, I will compare his with my original brace this weekend. I would like to thank Mike and Glenn from C & G who went out of there way to help me, From Glenn's Picture and Measurements it looks like a 78-16025 or 78-16094 Car brace is the correct one I will know after this weekend.

An hour to glass bead that part, that should be a 10 minute job. What are you using for a glass beader???? ken ct.

What i use for inside the crab cap [42 type] the 2 cap gaskets on the helmet type cap dist fit almost perfect in the crab cap if trimmed a little on about 1/3 of the outside diam. You dont even go all the way around and trim with scissors about 1/32".Make a nice smooth curved cut about 1/3 the way around. Fit perfect. Takes a little practice doing it. ken ct.:)
