anyone have an authentic 60HP '40 Ford

Kube, the first 1940 Ford I owned back in 1969 was a half ton pickup, 4 speed, with 588 gears. Dam thing would climb any hill around in 4th gear.

As a teenager I had a V8-60 in a Morris Minor. It was a really smooth little motor but really was a gutless wonder. I would think it would really be under powered in a 40 Ford.

there's a coupe here in town....very quiet engine....said it goes down the freeway 60mph plus no problem.....

John, I drove a Morris Minor when I was in England (Sept 1961-June 1963) Talk about a gutless wonder it had a stock 918 CC flat head 4 cyl. But it got me where I wanted to go and was good enough to court my future wife to be. Still have the wife and wish I still had the car.

I appreciate the attempts to help but maybe no one understood the question:
Do any of you guys HAVE a 1940 60hp car?" Not had, not know where one is, not can you remember one...
C'mon, certainly someone HAS one???

Dick SPADARO had a 1940 V8 60 Tudor sedan for sale last year..I have 4 v8 60 powered cars and I have a 1940 60 engine and transmission.

understood the question, just gave the best answer i had...sorry for answering...Mike
I just get frustrated. As many of you know, I am attempting to write a new restorers guide for 1940 passenger cars. The 60HP cars are elusive and in my quest to be very detailed, I really need to find authentic cars.
I do apologize for letting my frustrations get the best of me earlier.
I am sorry...

I always thought mine may have been a 60 originally, but it had a 59AB in it when I bought it in 62. Is there a way to tell once the engine is gone?

If it has a 59AB in it now, I believe most of the evidence is gone. I believe the radiator is different, has to set back further, there are two plates rivited to the front crossmember that take the 60 motor mounts, exhaust is different, rear end would be a 444 gear, wheels are narrower and smaller tires. Just a few differences outside of the engine itself.

You may want to mention in your restorers' guide that many 60's were swaped out for 85s or 100s during the forties and fifties. A bunch of the 60's were used in midget racers during those decades.

I have a good friend that owns an authentic 40 Ford 2dr sedan He brings it to the local car cruises occasionally . I would be more than happy to contact him and take pictures for you. Most likely he does not have a computer. Let me know what you need. You can also PM me if you wish to do so.

Check with Ray Helger in RI, 401 635 4849. He was in the process of buying the complete chassis of a '60 powered pickup truck if that helps any.

Contact CTaulbert over on the HAMB. He bought a bone stock 60HP 40 sedan several months ago and can possibly give some incite into your questions?

Kube, the 40 coupe project that Bob Drake undertook used a Fordor donor. They junked the body out back behind the shop, but the chassis they showed in their catalog (with all the streetrod bolt-on conversion parts they sell) appeared to have the 60 horse mounts in the "before" pics. Perhaps they have some other before pics available? Yes, a real long shot but worth checking out. Best of luck and I know your book is worth waiting for. RPM
