Going to have my rear end out soon, is there a better u-joint out there to replace the one inside while I have it apart? Any other thoughts that might be good to know on this.

They're pretty much the same thing up to 48.

I think Drake has one with 'needle bearings' in his catalog.
Don't know anything about it.

The stock Ford style u-joint is a wonderful component. It would be difficult to improve it. I have never seen one which was worn as badly as the needle bearing Lincoln style u-joints I have owned. My advice is to steer clear of the needle bearing joint for your Ford and stay with the stock joint.

The repop ones made in Bangladesh or someplace are junk. Look for a good original ujoint if you can find one. They will last forever if they are lubricated.
