I need help with what the hood support looks like, we're it's located and how it's fitted please ?
Have read that even though the 38 deluxe and 39 standard share almost the same sheet metal the hood support is different. Have found one for sale but need to know if its right and if its complete please.

Hope someone can help, thanks Ben

Thanks...i just need to know then ifs its correct for a 38 deluxe please ?
To answer your question, yes, it certainly appears to be 1938 Ford (all models). It also appears to be very complete sans the shoulder bolt, etc. to fasten it to the cowl and hood.

It is complete, as Kube says, but for the shoulder bolt. The plating has apparently been burned off in a fire? In addition to the plating, it should be painted body color on the outside face only, as it is visible through the hood louvers. It is correct for all 1937 and 1938 passenger cars, located on the driver side toward the rear. Many if not most 37-38 hoods were broken and repaired at the mount location due to poor design and inept gas station jockeys pulling down on the hood without first lifting to ratchet the support.
1939 Standard does not share as many parts as it seems to from appearance.

Thanks guys...does anyone have any pictures of how this mounts on the hood and the fire wall please ? Then that's all i would need to know.

Post #5 gave you good advice - the hood support will damage your hood when the curious open the hood and do not know to raise the hood and then down to close the hood. Do yourself a favor and use part of a broom handle to support the open hood - forget the support that you are contemplating on purchasing. I have had the curious open the hood and then close it without first raising the hood. I removed the support that you are considering.

Amazing, to say the least. 41-steel- asks some perfectly legitimate questions about an old Ford part. In reply, several posters give some pretty accurate answers. Then, you (Bill OH) decide to chime-in with a rediculous account of your own inability to control the situation when you ALLOW some ignorant jerk-off to walk-up to your car, open the hood without your blessing, and then ALLOW the same jerk-off to follow-through with the process and break YOUR hood while trying to close it. Sounds like you need to find a better solution to guarding your stuff in the first place. Maybe you should leave the key in your car from now on so that the next jerk-off that might want to take it for a ride doesn't damage something by hot-wiring and pushing it to get it started. I own a '37 Ford, and you can be well-assured when I tell you that NOBODY is gonna be opening and closing my hood without my OK! I can also think of a couple of better uses for that broom handle than you've come-up with, too. DD

Coop, I know it's Monday morning, but go have another cup of coffee and chill out. Bill offered good advice also. How many drivers do you see that still use the stock ratchet, anyway?

I have found the Barn to be helpful on occasion. Still, I find it somewhat bothersome to have the need to sort through all the BS answers that really have nothing to do with the original post (question).
Maybe I am simply getting older and find I have less time (tolerance) for BS. That, I suppose, is a real possibility.
Still, as is the case here, the poster (41steel) wanted clearly to know what a hood ratchet looks like and how it attaches.
"41steel" probably already knew he could prop the hood up with a broom handle. I think we all learned that trick shy of second grade.
Maybe a lesson can be learned here... answer THE question with a legitimate answer. If you can't, DON'T.

By the way, if some clown opened the hood on my car without permission, I'd find a real quick use for a broom handle.

Kube, I agree... Your'e getting older and have less time for BS.
Don'cha know, its the BS in life that keeps it interesting.

And by the way, your BS about the broomstick had already been offered up, so it was just plain stale old BS, not even funny anymore.:D
