Carb leaking problem

Hi to all....here is my situation...the car is a 55 Ford with a two barrel carb.....my fuel pump was having a weeping issue from the two weep holes ....the car would idle nice but die as soon as I applied the throttle ....so I installed another fuel pump and the car ran fine until I shut down the car.
I opened the hood and looking at the carb with the air cleaner off I could see gas running down the accelerator pump rod, a pretty steady stream of approx one teaspoon full of gas....then it would stop and when I did get the car running again, it would run fine until I shut it off ...then another teaspoon full of gas would run down the accelerator shaft rod.....do you think the fuel pump and the carb are related issues ?....Do you think the new fuel pump has to high a pressure forcing fuel to be pushed out of the carb ? How does one tell what fuel pressure the pump is putting out ? This was a pump that I happened to have and it fit the 55 perfectly....this is NOT an electric pump....thanks,John in CT

to check pressure the pump is putting out hook up a fuel pressure gauge at the carb, 2 1/2 # is what your looking for, also check float for highth and possible small hole in it and not floating right, check needle and seat for junk in it, if you have a rubber pointed needle change it for a metal tipped one

If the engine was very warm, it may be fuel boiling in the carb. When you shut the motor off, it gets warmer for a few minutes. If you run the float level at the low level, it may fix the problem. Our new oxygenated fuel is the problem and its not going away, it must be dealt with.

Today I removed the carburetor to see if i could find the problem...I opened the carb up and removed the float to test it under water to see if there was any leaks...no leaks...removed the needle valve ..it looked clean ...blew out the seat and reassembled the carb and the car ran great without the leak problem...might have been something small in the carb and just checking everything dislodged it...who knows...
I like Old Don thought that the gas was boiling out of the carb but then it would happen even when the car was first started and run for less than a minute, when i shut the engine down ,waited 15-30 seconds and out came the gas....so now it seems ok but time will tell.
Thanks for all input....John in CT

If you look at the outside of 94 carbs where the fuel line threads into, most of them are beat up pretty good from people tapping on them to free up the needle from sticking. Common problem.

John,i would use a steel inlet needle in there not rubber tipped and set float at 1 7/16" Measure with top upside down NO gasket. ken ct.

a new pump will often cause an old carb to flood.worn neddle and seat that cant handle more pressure.
