throttle lever on column

Sounds like the springs at the bottom of the steering column levers are weak or have "wind-up". The end of the spring coil might have been installed such that it is wound up a little and tries to close down the throttle. Take a small screwdriver and lift the end of the spring to see if it moves to a more relaxed position. This is a small chance, but it has worked for another guy a few years ago.

Also the bumps that hold the lever in position may be worn smooth, as they are on my car. The fit in my top bushing is tight enough to hold the levers in position however.

Not to hijack the thread Tom, but what would cause those same levers to be hard to pull down? My coupe they move easily, on my leatherback I really have to pull them (both throttle and spark) Thanks.

The top bushing is potmetal on some cars and swells with age. That's why my levers are fairly tight. I've been oiling them at the bushing and they are better. Replacements are aluminum, and I haven't heard of any tightness with them.

Are you talking down where the levers hook on by the springs?
