T16 (Bren Gun Carrier), Flathead motor

Lads as you can see here this a 100hp 1942 Flathead that is in my friend Bren Carrier T16 , made by Henry Ford exclusively for the US military in ww2. I noticed he has a earth Strap mounted to the engine mount is this normal to do, is it because of the electrolisis facter the that can eat your motor away? same goes for your rad if it is not earthed? I don't believe this would be to combat electrolysis, rather just to provide a good earth which is one of the most important considerations when running a 6V system. Electrolysis is usually only a problem where two different metals are in contact and subject to application of electrical current.
 
I also own a T16.I will try post a picture.

Not sure where the battery is grounded but if its grounded to the frame the strap from the frame to the motor mount makes sense.
(just noticed that the original post is over a year old)
 
Additional attention to grounding helps everything...another angle on military stuff, though, is eliminating electrical inefficiencies that would result in static on communications gears. There were elaborate kits of ground straps and capacitors, both civilian and military, to defeat radio interference.

I believe Bruce is correct. I restored a 42 IHC USMC front line ambulance that, according to the service manual, was radio-shielded. Many ground straps and filters on it. Had nothing to do with 6V or 12V as some USMC cargo carriers were 12V, also radio-shielded.
 
Look at the oil pipes and valve at back of engine...can't see where it all goes, but I assume this is a full flow engine with those going to a cooler?
