Flywheel question

I am wanting to go to a lighter flywheel with a V-8 clutch. Would I be better off modifying my A flywheel or adapting a V-8 flywheel?

V8 flywheel requires starter drive modifications, reversing the starter drive and installing an outboard bearing on the shaft. A lightened stock flywheel is much easier to deal with. I use a V8 flywheel on my modified roadster and have done this modification a few times. I don't think it would be worth the hassle except for competition use. If an "off the shelf" starter could be found then it would be a different story.

Chris, you might want to get a copy of Secrets magazine January 2006, page 6 & 7, it has the drawing. There is one misprint on the drawing that was noted in the April 2006 page 35, the dimention 5.735R is actually 5.312R. The April 2006 issue of Secrets has info on the V-8 flywheel pages 14, 15 and 16. I did one 63 lb. model A flywheel on my lathe and turned it down to 36 lb. acording to the drawing.
Good luck, carry on the good work Chris.

Nick,
I don't have a lathe nor do I know anyone with one big enough to handle a flywheel.

I just had James lighten one up for me a couple weeks ago...drilled for the V8 pressure plate & lightened down to about 36lbs.

I get 425+ shipping for the whole shebang, flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, with new starter ring. probably be 50$ shipping.

Taylor wants $275.00 to do the job. H&H wants $450.00. Guess who is getting the job? :D
Remember that is for labor only ! The Clutch kit and ring gear are extra ! So H&H More than likely is in the ball park, I would imagine everyone on here thats offering up there service is more than qualified, Come see me if i can help, Im super busy but can find time to help out. Good luck
