Metal Tube Valve Stem Hardware

1) Who supplies metal tube stems that DO NOT have to be vulcanized in place? such as the metal stems for Model A tubes ... OR can i use those? and if using the A stem, will the T hardware (nuts, dustcover, etc) fit? using on my 1915 with wood felloes, non-demountable.

2) Am I destined to purchase new tubes with metal stems?

I think you have four choices:

1 Just use rubber stems;

2 Use rubber stems and get the correct-looking cover that screws onto rubber stems (Lang's page 38);

3 Get brass stems and have your local tire shop vulcanize them in;

4 Buy tubes with brass stems.

The stems made for non-wire T wheels have the large threaded area right up to the valve cap area to allow for the felloe. They are often longer overall as well. Wire wheels on a T or A use stems like the one shown below. If there is enough large thread showing through the felloe to install the base nut for the cover they will work. You can check this with a loose stem.
