adhesives for running board covers

Any recommendations for adhesives for running board covers? I'd prefer something available at a NAPA or hardware store if you've used any with success. Also products to avoid; you can learn by a bad example as well as by a good example.

The 3M Super adhesive in the spray can available at Home Depot should do the trick - especially if you spray both the running board and the cover. It's a contact cement.

One thing I've noticed with contact cement is "shrinkage". After applying it to both surfaces and adhering the cover, about 1 week later the cover seems to pull in to the center. As much as 1/4 inch on each end. Suggest you wait to do any trimming of the cover.

When i bought my runningboard covers, they came with Weldwood original contac cement. You can buy a Quart from Lowes or a LS store for $10 to $11. Maybe Menards and other stores sells it also. Marv

On my '40 I used Weldwood contact adhesive, got it at Home Depot. A tip, don't apply more than 2-3 inches of width for the full lenght of the board starting at the inside edge. Once you get the inside edge firmly attached and straight you may go ahead and glue the rest of the rubber to the board. I used paint stir sticks to keep the two parts from touching until I was ready for it...someone else suggested using waxed paper for this, then sliding the paper out as you go. I also recommend priming both sides of the boards with an automotive quality two part epoxy primer. Let the primer set one day before glueing the rubber on. Another suggestion is to be careful and not strech the rubber as you glue the two pieces together...if you strech you may end up with too much cover and/or crooked covers. Good luck, Buford.
