If you go to the Ford Garage site the first picture you will see is what appears to be a magazine ad for the 1930 Ford coupe (45B). I've searched for a color magazine ad showing the 1930 coupe but have not found any. Does anyone know where this ad was copied from?
I've seen that picture before! If I recall it was in a reproduction Model A sales booklet (The New Ford, Adding New Beauty, Advertising the Model A Ford etc) I got from the rack at Sacramento Vintage Ford …which means it’s still in a pile here somewhere. Perhaps it states origin.
The book "Advertsing the Model A Ford" by Jim Thomas is the greatest print resource for magazine ads dedicated to the Model A.
The book refers to this ad as "Pharmacist pointing" and states there were four versions of this ad. The color picture as seen on Vince's site is part of a two-page spread which also had a color ad for the 82-B pickup. Original versions were published in the Literary Digest and The Saturday Evening Post.
Of interest in the ad is that there are three model a's pictured in the same image. Notice the sedan delivery in the background and part of a bumper, fender and wheel in the bottom right. Funny that all three cars are drawn with White Wall Tires.
Thanks Timi, That is a great book, I just looked up the ad in question in my copy. I should take the time to go through it and look at the ads that don't cover the body styles I have. The Author has a spot at Hershey every year, always nice to getr a book autographed when you buy it. Bob
The coupe in the Pinto ad is in our club. It's now owned by the son of the then owner when the ad came out. There also was another Pinto ad with a roadster from our area.
There you go Leo, Tim found it. I knew I had seen it before. Good book.
I buy a new book or something off the Model A literature rack on each visit to Vintage Ford.
