I stumbled across this photo the other day and am wondering what the heck that whitish plate/tray is. Any takers?

That is a heat shield for the distributor, first came out in the mid 80's. I personally do not like them.

It is a plate from Ford that was intended to deflect the heat from the manifold away from the distributor. It was described in the Service bulletins about 1929. A reproduction is available from vendors. Probably not a bad idea to have one. Current reproductions are also available in stainless.

Thanks guys. It had me scratching my head.

I'm not sure about the utility of it, but it's #@$% ugly looking :) I guess I could see stainless... if you had to have one.

I had one but chucked it. I did'nt like the look and I didn't think it fit well. Also the one in your photo looks like it is installed upside down..

Jusy one persons opinion, so my 2cents my not by much..

Also I see the throttle crosshaft hasn't been oiled is a while. :) Have it corrected in 72 hours and you won't recieve a fix-it ticket! :)

Gee's Tom. after your tale of woe on the U joint I guess you have buckets of grease and oil now..

I did notice that he has an oil filter...

I always thought it would be nice to own a double A, but after working on this guy's AA, I pretty well lost the desire. This truck looked good enough to leave it as an unrestored survivor, but it turned out things were really shot, mostly due to lack of lubrication. Of the 6 brakes, (4 service and 2 emergency) only one moved at all. The other 5 were rusted solid.

I usually drop a couple drops of oil in it every time I pull my dipstick. No sense just wiping that oil off and wasting it. :D
