steering worm gear 13:1 or 15:1

I am rebuilding the steerin in a 33 model B. It has a 13:1
Ratio in the worm gear and shaft. If I change both to 15:1
do I need to change anything else for proper fit? Thanks. Manuel

Changing the worm & sector only will not require any other changes . As stated above they both need to be 15:1 . The problem with changing the worm & shaft is there are long & short shafts - just like the tubes & light switch rods . If you change the shaft & worm both make sure the replacement is the same length .

While your at it have the sector housing machined for a modern seal. You want the smallest OD for the shaft ID and the smallest width available.

I have tooling to fill the cavity with epoxy and then machine it for a lip seal. PM if interested. I don't machine any of the original metal.

I just pulled the shaft and worm gear out of my '32 box. Is there a way to tell if it has been changed to 15:1 already? Also, if it hasn't been changed does going to 15:1 over 13:1 make a big difference?

I think it makes a big difference. A 15.1 should be 3.75 turns and a 13.1 should be 3.25 turns.

Left is 15-1 and has B-3575B forged onto it . Right is 13-1 and is stamped 13-1 . The thing to look at is the width of the tooth end . Notice the 13-1 is wider overall and more importantly the tooth spacing is wider . Pretty hard to mis-match these two ratios as they don't mesh worth a crap if with the wrong worm . I like the 13-1 as it is " quicker " and I don't mind the extra effort to have it .

On a 33 coupe,I shortened the pitman arm 1-1/2" & needle brgs on sector & it steered very easily.Dont shorten the p-arm unless you realy know what you are doing.Perhaps there are short p-arms being made like they are being made now for model A,s.

I have a 33-34 steering box, I turned it lock to lock...twice, and came up with 4 1/8 turns...what does that mean?
