Electric Fuel Shutoff

No matter which float valve I try, invariably my late 31 coupe ends up dripping out of my zenith carb. I have had the best carb guy in the club go through it several times and sometimes it works like a pro or like today where I took the grandkids out for ice cream this afternoon and had one of them point out that something was leaking under the car.

Fuel shut off for me of course requires opening the hood and shutting off the fuel valve. I have seen the electric shut off on a couple of parts sites Mikes and Snyders. Past the annoyance I am really more concerned from a safety point of view. If you are using one of these can you give me your take on it's reliability?

Aside from not being correct for a restoration, these work excellent for controlling the fuel. You'll just need to connect it to an electrical source either through the key or different hot line. If you hook it into a separate switch hidden somewhere it also works as a theft deterrent. IMHO

ive had one for yrs . works great . i to have a late '31 . tired of opening the hood . 2 wire hook up .... 1 hot & 1 ground ............................ steve

I used a hydraulic shut off on one car...Similar to what some drag racers use for a linelock...I'm not sure you could get a 6 volt version though.

I have one on both of my late '31's. You'll like it. I wired to a hidden toggle switch so I can shut the fuel switch off with the engine running, run it up and run the carb dry before the final park for the day. You only need one wire. Ground one of the solenoid wires to the valve body. As long as you have steel line and brass fittings (no hoses) you do not need to run a separate ground wire. I didn't like the 45 degree middle of the fuel line setup the vendors sell so I made up my own new steel lines. You might also want to put a 3A inline fuse in if you run a separate switch. The 6V draws about 1 amp.

Hi,
I installed mine as near to the inlet of the carburetor as possible with a hidden switch on my 29 coupe. Works great, When I park it in my garage I shut it off and run the carburetor dry. I also turn off the maual valve but when I stop on a drive I just turn off the electric valve switch.

Here's one of mine positioned near a sidebowl Z.

One of the 1st mods I made to my indented 31 tudor, followed instructions, ran the 2 wires thru orig type small wire loom and painted housing black and the wires, almost looks factory! Works great, no leaks and I have a master kill sw mounted under driver's seat.

send me an email and I'll show you the very best way to hookup the valve. Jim Boehmke jbcactus@c-zone.net
You can then post my pic for the other boys to copy. You buy the brass fittings from McMaster Carr.

I see Snyders sells one for $60. You might get one at a lower price by contacting the phone number at the bottom of my note.
/name plate data from the gas solenoid valve I Bought from Brattons, follows.

This is an excellent valve, you can see it in both Jim's picture and mine. I notice some of the catalogs/ online now show two other, different valves. I can't comment on their operation.

If you remove the top snap ring and coil you can disassemble the Snap-Tite valve for cleaning with a special slot-spanner tool. I made one from an old hex nut, works with a deep socket. I removed and flipped the solenoid on mine to move the wires closer to the valve for my cover and routing (requires trimming the coil plastic).

my 31 has electric gauges with lights, temp and volts,I wired my electric shut off with the gauge lights switch if lights are on so is shut off
