e28 Cylinder Head Question plus Cable Question

Hello, FBer's

Attached are pics of my cylinder head on #A 11739*, Jan. 20, 1928.

It appears to have the boss where the distributor clamp screw goes in.
Also, had "Ford USA" between the plugs. The only casting marks I can find are three small round nubs at each corner of the head.

What do you think?? Is this an authentic e28 head, appropriate for this date of Model A ??

Notice that the head nuts are too tall for the studs. It should have the shorter early head nuts. This head has the water pump fastened with cap bolts instead of on studs.

Second Q: Should the label on the Electrock Cable banana casting read from the passenger side or driver's side. I'm hearing conflicting info. The old nearly obscured label reads from the driver's side. The new repro from A&L says to install to read from passenger side. Which is correct??

Thanks for the advice,

Regards, and New Years Best Wishes,

Notice that the head nuts are too tall for the studs. It should have the shorter early head nuts. This head has the water pump fastened with cap bolts instead of on studs.

You have a "service replacement" head.

Pluck

I am not an expert but the JS section for early 1928 indicates there were Ford script heads and that they had no middle water passage. The service replacement script heads do have a middle water passage and personally I have seen script heads of both types. Turn your head over and take a look at the middle water passage area.

1. ... i believe this is the earliest head with 'boss' for distributor screw. i have this pix tagged as 'pers jensen-Denmark'

2. my banana tag runs lengthwise, readable from passenger side ... (second pix is from one of doc Kalinka's articles) ... seems to be several mounting styles
