What do you DISLIKE most about your car?

Almost three years ago, I bought a 30 Town Sedan (4dr) that really needed a lot of restoration. I've been working on it ever since. Admiring the FBers talking about actually driving their cars, heck all I ever do is move the chassis around the yard! So, sez me, I'm gonna get me another model A. I heard about a 30 coupe that the guy wanted a fair price for and I snapped it up. It ran, doesn't leak very much, relatively few "farmer fixes". Interior was a redo in the 70s is my guess. Driver's side window is a piece of plastic. the body has a few dings and some rust where it's very common for a coupe to have rust. I love the old girl! However! The power plant does not seem to be up to specs. It don't leak, It starts fairly easily, It don't smoke, has one of the steadiest vacuum readings I've ever seen, yet it don't go, No Va! Maybe it's topped out at 45mph. That's foot flat on the floor. Next the trans howls. But they're supposed to, aren't they? And the gas mileage is atrocious, Dunno what it is, but it ain't good!
Can't think of anything else, Oh yeah, I need a rumble seat. Bottom and back, springs, pictures of how they go together? Anything!
Terry

I am guessing you timing is ever so slightly retarded. Those are the same symptoms my car and a friends car had. We advanced the timing ever so slightly and now I have had mine close to 60, I only backed off because our steering is pretty scary with slop right now.

The color scheme is rose beige, good for a '29 but not my '28. I hope to repaint it someday after I win the lottery.

very little - the hood & front fenders need a paint job, and I really want to move the spare to a wheel well so that I can get a trunk on the back - what'd people do in the old days - pile everything up on the back seat?

I agree. The only thing that bugs me about my Tudor is the lack of storage space for books, tools, spare parts, and such. I had pockets put on the back of my seats and that helped. I am currently building a vintage looking trunk and a rack to hold it behind the spare tire. Just got all the wood cut. Got to get the toolbox off the rear floorboard.

Whats not to like? I drove my town sedan for two hours today all on back roads and just loved every minute. Sure, there was a rattle or two on the really rough stuff but hay, its 83 years young.

Christoph,
Yep, you'd never be able to play James Bond-007! Just watched "GOLDFINGER"! I have all 22 movies, soon will have all 23! Life is GOOD! Bill W.

I guess my biggest complaint is the number of leaks and drips from the engine, transmision, and other places. No matter what I replace and/or tighten, it seems to leak.

The fact I dont have a garage to keep her in. I also wish I knew what I know now when I stated piddling with it..

The cheap quality (?) of some of the replacement parts. Not up to the specs of Henry.
Buenes dias, Lupie,
I hear a lot of complaints here about poor quality & poor fitting repro parts. I can't remember EVER getting FUNKY parts that didn't work right or poor quality. I wonder if some just complain out of habit. Henry's workers weren't perfect either. Someone bought 4 matching NOS rods, in original boxes & 2 were crooked!
Aren't we glad we don't own ooooold Studebakers? Imagine gettin' parts for that dude!
Once, someone gave me an ooooold 1919 Studebaker steering wheel, couldn't find a car to put it on, so I gave it to a guy & he made a CLOCK out of it. There might be something funny in this last paragraph, but I & the Dog:cool: can't find it!! Bill W.
