Bad day

Ford38v8,
Those trees in your pic sure look like gum trees [eucalyptus] from here.
At first I thought that pic was taken in Australia. But maybe not.
Just wondering.

Manuel in Oz

Manuel, Yes, they are eucalyptus, very common here in the San Francisco Bay Area. They initially were imported from Oz early in the 1900's, and grow like grass here! So fast, matter of fact, that they have been at the center of some catastrophic forest fires over the years. We love them all the same!

That particular photo was taken at Bearsford Park in San Mateo, Ca, at RG 1's annual Bean Bash. Yours Truly in the red plaid jacket.

After further inspection I notice one piston has been replaced its nice n tight the rest including the bad one seem a little loose. This is a 8ba so am going to mount it to engine stand tomorrow and replace rings. Thanks for the help

Back in 1961,I had a 38 coupe that suddenly ran on 7 cyls.when I pulled the head, the piston looked like yours. The top 2 rings had broken into small pieces & destroyed the ring lands & worked their way to top of piston. There was a slight hole worn in side of cyl as well.I patched it up by getting a new piston & rings for one cyl.It ran on all cyls again & I was able to drive the 1,000 miles to get home with a smooth running engine.A month later I was able to buy a 10,000 mile Ford rebuilt engine for $50 and it went in the car.I would think that if one piston is bad,the others wont be all that great either.Likely the engine will need a rebuild.
