Father-in-laws '29 AA

Visiting my father in law and we are discussing his AA. The truck is at his farm property that is a good ways away from where we are. My question is if any parts of the cab of interchangeable with an A. The rear end has become locked up but the truck was running not long ago. The roof is covered with a solid sheet of Copper.
We are hoping to get the truck trailered soon to his current home on Florida pan handle. Before it is stolen... "the truck or the Copper!":)

My question is if any parts of the cab of interchangeable with an A. :)

if thats a Ford cab, all parts are interchangeable with a pickup with the exception of the radiator shell. If its a custom cab, not so. I cannot tell from the small size of the photo whether or not its a standard Ford cab. All engine parts are interchangeable with an A car as well, except the radiator. A car radiator will fit the frame, but not the shell; well, it will go in the shell, but not fill it. The frame, brake pedal, springs, brakes, trans, front and rear axles are unique to an AA.

to meet AA club members and find AA parts go to the AA truck club site.

Going to pick up my freshly rebuilt engine Monday morning so I am all ready excited about that. Now after discussing plans to bring his truck out of the barn to where they live now has me worrying if I will be able to sleep tonight.

The radiator and shell can be used if they are used together. I did that once when I put most of the front end parts (including the engine) from a '31 AA on a '31 Fordor.

Rear ends for AA's are not hard to find. You can find a lot of AA's that some guy has stripped all the sheet metal from to build an A truck and ruined a good AA in the process.

Chris I agree. It seems when you see an AA at a show it gets much more attention than most other A's. There were so many variations and much fewer survivors it seems that they really are really more of a eye catcher than most believe.

Discussing the options that are available to us to bring the truck home. What is the approx., weight and width of the truck? Its about 250 miles from here to his old abandoned farm. The last time he was there he discovered a couple old engines and his tractor were stolen. So I really want to help him get the truck moved as soon as possible. The land is adjacent to a clay pit that is occasionally frequented by dirt bikes and and who knows who else. The 20 acre property and house are for sale. And not visible from the road.

I had a friend in the jeep world near PA that had a property like that where they stored a lot of uncommon model jeeps and a lot of military iron. He got cancer and was away from the property a year. EVERYTHING was gone when he went back. You have good reason to be concerned.

What is the approx., weight and width of the truck?

weight is around 3000 lbs, up to 3500 on a dump truck. Wheel base is 131 inches axle to axle. The distance of the front axle from hub cap to hub cap is appx 62.5 inches. Rear axle with duals is appx 76-77 inches, I have hauled a dump truck on a common heavy duty car/ truck/ tractor trailer with 2 axles and 4 wheels. You will need a strong truck to haul it.

The front axle may be the same as an A if it is an early 29 and did not get back to the dealer for the recall to switch to a heavier front end.

Looks like we are going to start shopping for transport bids after the 1rst of the year. His truck is 10 hrs from my place in Baton Rouge in Interlachen FL. And then another 5 hours to his home near Port St Joe, FL. So it probably doesn't make since for me to go get it myself. Any one who can refer a dependable and affordable transport would be appreciated.

I used to work at a shop where we dealt in high end 500-1000HP supercars. We always used:

They were always friendly, reliable, and we never had a problem. Half of the time the cars were not able to drive on or off the truck (like your A). I would guess about $500 to transport that. Maybe a little more now.
