temperture sender

On a 292 temp sender with two posts, does it make any difference which post is used to connect to the guage.

ive never seen a y block with a two post sender, they are a single post maybe you have a flathead sender?

The '55 Shop manual shows the setup with a double connector in one head and a single in the other head like a flathead but as far as I know it was never used in a Y-Block.

The double connector one is not considered a sending unit but a "thermal switch" set a 217°F to indicate the coolant was boiling. Ford deemed it was not necessary on the Y-Block. The manual is incorrect in this instance, probably printed before the engineers figured not to use it.

I still maintain that Y-Blocks do not have two separate posts (as in double terminals) not two connection points to the same post as you are referring to on the '56 sending unit.

If the OP has a '56 sending unit with one post with two connections I would think it would be obvious that it wouldn't matter.

But since he didn't state the year and the '55 Ford manual does show the double terminal sending unit I was explaining it. Obviously I'm not the only one that thought he was asking about a double post unit.

Next time, Paul, I will leave it to you to answer since you undeniably know it all...

I think even you will be able to see the difference but I will point them out just for you...

I agree with Paul on the two terminal sender. 56 was the first year for 12v systems & Ford used a one year gauge system on them. I recall the gauge would go to hot when you shut the car off and register the correct reading when you restarted the vehicle. Thanks for the pics Yblockhead thats how I remember them.

I am curious. Why is it that some of you get so defensive and mean spirited when someone disagrees with you? Do you come here to learn and discuss or smart off and show everyone "I am right"? Chill out, we are all supposed to be friendly here, not children.

I should have been more clear. The motor is a stock original 1956 292 yblock. My 55 manual shows a two post sender.

I only became defensive because of this statement...

And these guys are YBlockers (smile)

not because I misunderstood what the sender the OP was asking about. I even asked what year he was talking about...

Looks like some one can't take a small joke. I apologize for any offense you took.

Your first reply sounded so like you new everything about these sending units and I knew it was incorrect. I only tried to give the correct information when the the wrong answer was given.
