Well I got the tree's taken down, the stumps removed and the cement crew came in and got the forms all put in and dug the rat wall. The following day they came and put the cement pad in. Today they lied the blocks. Monday they will start constructing the walls. It might be done by Christmas.:)

bige386, good for you. looks like it's coming along. What size you building?
been there and done that, it's exciting.

Scott... A rat wall is basically the foundation. Its a 6"wide X 3' deep concrete that they set the blocks on. In the old days they called it a rat wall because it kept the rats from digging through and getting into the building.

peewee....Its going to be 24x30. I know I'm pretty excited about it. I cant wait till my 46 is all cozy-ed up in it.

what??....no plumbing for drinking fountain....shower....wash sink.....looking good...hope they get it up before it gets too cold......Mike

I wondered what that massive silo thing was to the right of the garage in the first pic. Then I realised it was a bird feeder. Doh!

Mart.

This may come under the heading of "too little too late" but did you have your contractors put a vapor barrier under the concrete? If not, you might want to keep it in mind for your next garage. 24 X 30 is a nice size. I built one for my '46 tudor 4 years ago and let myself be talked into a "standard" 20 X 20. BIG mistake. I think you've got the size spot on. I think you'll get a lot of good out of the building.

That's gonna be a nice garage, but it isn't big enough. No matter what size you build, it isn't big enough. LOL

Make the ceiling high enough that you can put in a lift and store an extra car for each lift.

Rat wall(?) Around here they call that a "footer". Got to be below the Frost Line. 24 X 30 is a nice "starter" size, make sure you leave room for expansion, or you'll wish you had! Lookin good. Paul Selfe.

Deffinatelty never a big enough garage. All that ends up happening is that we find more stuff to fill it. That size gets small in a hurry, mine is 22x38 and its full

This garage will be just for the 46. I have a 35x75 with 12" ceilings in it for all my grease monkey stuff. I'm just going to us this one for tinkering on the 46. 24x30 is as big as I can go in my back yard due to property lines and drain fields. And township rules and regulations say I can only go as high as my house. So I can only go with 8" walls. :(
Here is a picture of my other garage.

I don't think you will have enough headroom with 8" (Sic) ceiling . Even 12" (Sic.) won't be enough. (Smile)
