1940 wheel pin stripe color

Vic, all cars on the field must be driven through Operational Check, where a minimum of drivability standards are confirmed. They are then driven onto the judging field. To do more would not be feasible, nor would it insure that any car would or could complete a day trip, let alone a cross country trip.

To be fair, many Dearborn cars do tour cross country to attend and be judged. There is also a rule in effect that is permissive of accidental damage, road rash, and leaking fluids that happened on the road to the meet. Still, it is very understandable that after the expenditure of many thousands of dollars, an owner would rather preserve his fresh restoration in pristine condition at least until it has garnered its share of awards.

Oh, by the way, there are venues for the type of judging you suggest. One such event is called "The Great American Road Race".

Now, aren't you ashamed of pulling my chain once again?

Alan, I'm also aware of the Great American Race,;) I almost competed in it several years ago as a co-driver in my friends '34 Ford Roadster. Another thing, I'm never ashamed of stating my position on anything, I don’t shy away, and I don’t pull anyone’s chain. To suggest so just amplifies your arrogance and pomposity relevant to your positions with respect to the EFV8 Club.:p One could surmise that you’ve been pulling your own chain, to the point that it has blurred your vision and effected your judgment.. The bottom line is; you go your way and I'll go my way. I'm sure we'll both enjoy the hobby. :D

I'd say I'll see you on the road, but I doubt it.;) Have a nice weekend. Vic

Vic, for someone so critical of the way the V8 club judges its member cars, it's not at all surprising that you have never yourself volunteered in any capacity toward the betterment of the club beyond the running of your mouth.

In the late 40s there was and old man named Bill who was an striper from the horse and wagon days. He did striping on the cars and wheels for us. He would hold 2 or 3 dragon tail brushes between his fingers and spin the wheel putting 2 or 3 strips on at a time. Same on the cars. He never stopped on a door or panel and made it with one run. I never saw him wipe anything off. We have a local guy that does it by brush but he wipes off quite often. G.M.

There you go again Alan, spouting what you don't know... I was a contributing member of the EFV8 Club for almost 35 years, and Newsletter Editor for the LIRG for 10 of those years. Go back and look at your V8 TIMES collection and do some research before you continue to "run your mouth"! :p

I have a pair of 16" x 4" 1940 wheels (stamped mfg date) with original black paint and pin strips in a red-orange color. I'm 99% sure these are original as I took off the inner trim ring and couldn't believe my eyes to see the condition of the paint and pinstrip underneath. The wheels had been sitting for probably 30-40 years in a barn with other Ford parts on the back of a Model T truck. I'll try to post some pictures here this weekend of these.

I agree the wheels were pinstriped in 1940....but could it have only been deluxe?

I like um striped.
Go with what you like.

Unless you are having your car judged, go ahead and stripe the wheels if that is what you like, it's your car.
If you do plan on putting it on a V8 club concourse however you will lose points for the stripes, like Kube said they don't belong on a 40.
Just because they have been seen on a 40 doesn't mean they came out of the factory that way. All this ink surprises me, seems pretty cut and dried. Speculating on what might or could have happened doesn't really help.

Amen Deuce! Amen!
I get the same discussions tossed at me (arguments) on the concourse. Had a guy at the NY meet a couple of years ago with a 40 convertible tell me loudly and profanely that I was full of ---. He'd owned the car since 1965 and hey, that apparently was proof it was authentic.
After 25 years of use (5 or so of them during the war years) most of the cars were used hard and / or used up. To think one survived that long without being altered, etc. takes more than a bit of imagination.
How many guys own 2009 model vehicles that are as they left the factory?
All you guys can argue away but some things are known to be true. Wheel stripes on a 40 Ford - NOPE.

Hey Alan,
A bit of advice??? Don't bother trading barbs with Vic. While 98% of the world understands the truth, Vic never will. Lord knows I fell in to the same "trap". I let it go. Admittedly, it took me too long to see the guy only hears one voice and that one voice's opinions - his. All others are wrong. It did help to receive emails from others, even one of his Saturday "pizza buddies" to warn me off.
Want to know who's the best? Just ask him.
His convoluted logic is beyond the reasonable imagination.
His cars? There's more than one obvious reason he has never competed on a concourse or the Great American Race. A couple I can think of immediately are baling wire and duct tape.
Alan, trust me - let it go.
Vic - have a nice day.

You have a nice day too Kube, you and your grand delusions. LOL;)

Who amongst us will be or is 100% original at 72 years old. False Teeth, Hips, Knees, Etc. Maybe a face lift for some. Important thing is still kick'n. Not to take anything away from concourse events but if you like them with stripes, stripe them. If you lose points so what. If you enjoy the car thats all that should matter. If it were my car and it had a late enough serial number I would argue it came of the line with 1941 wheels on it.

That video is very funny; I've seen it before and got a big kick out of it.:D You’ve got to give the guy credit; at least he's out there trying, and driving his car, not sitting in the garage polishing the undercarriage…:p I've always found that self-deprecating humor  (of which I avail myself quite often on this forum:)), can only be used by those who are comfortable with their position and not needing to seek the approval of others the validate themselves.;)

Kube, exactly what is it that you keep saying I don't get, and why do you continue to respond to my postings ("Don't bother trading barbs with Vic. While 98% of the world understands the truth, Vic never will. Lord knows I fell in to the same "trap". I let it go."), when you claim to have "let it go."? I'm curious because I don't think you have a clue. I agreed with you on an earlier post, made by Alan on this thread, relevant to Concours Cars drivability, yet you still choose to attack me? Are you that insecure? It's obvious that you continually need reassurance that you are the expert you claim to be, with respect to '40 Ford minutia. And, while I will admit to enjoying a modicum of amusement from your continuing childish attempts to discredit me (mostly due to your use of vulgarities, lack of proper sentence structure, and appropriate punctuation, to say nothing of your misunderstanding of the definition and proper usage of the BIG words you try to use, let alone your understanding of exactly what it is that you’re trying to accomplish), the game is growing tiresome for me because you are obviously not up to the task. Do yourself a favor, save any further embracement, and abide by what you said, "let it go." Have a nice day. ;)
