Volo EV8 show this weekend?

I thought the Volo IL show was Aug 1? I put it in my calendar months ago. And now it's apparently Aug 14? Was it always Aug 14 and I screwed up?

My parents have been planning on coming up for months too. I see there is a picnic on Aug 1. Is it limited to only IL V8 members?

Have you been to this show before? I would be tempted to go if it was better than the Skips shows in Lake county. Thanks, Al K.

Haven't been to a Skip's show in a long time, how is that workin out for those guys, If you get the date down please post it up. Been a while for Volo too.

I've not been to it either, and it's definitely Aug 14. I would think it would be a different animal than the Skip's shows. I've only been to the new Fairgrounds once. Seems nice. Lots of pavement and zero grass though.

Skips is a hit or miss on flathead parts and cars. Not too many folks show their flatty's at skips. Parts are also lacking. Although I saw a guy walk out with a 39 or later ****** and there was a block with all the parts in a box. $7.50 to get in makes me only go about once a year. Al K.

Our area seems to be a bit shy on old fords in general, and not a lot of flattys.

Frank,

We have about 130 of them in our V-8 club, headquartered in the NW suburbs. Our Early Ford Day in Volo is Saturday, August 14. We hope to see a lot of Fords there and plenty of flat motors. I'm attaching a flyer for the show.

Not to argue or prove a point or anything else but I find it sad that in a metropolitan area of 8 million people the local V8 Ford club can muster only 136 examples of these fine automobiles. Again, that's not any fault of the V8 Ford club or anything, I see it as a fault in the general populous. I believe that 25 years ago I may have been a member of that club. I went to a few shows at Lyons Ryan Ford in Antioch. I hope to stop by at Volo with the wife maybe I'll bring the wife and sign up again. Would you guys allow my 38 panel in the club? It has a 351 W in it but the body is fairly stock. Thanks, Frank

Frank,

We would be happy to have your '38 panel in the club. Most of our cars are pretty stock, but not everyone goes that route. Take a look at our website below for more information. By all means, take a ride out to Volo and see some nice cars.

Well, who went and how was it? Frank, I saw on another thread that you went.

I ended up having to work for a few hours that day.

It was a very low turnout - we aren't sure why. Some areas had a threat of rain early, but it turned out to be a beautiful day. Our club members brought out 20 Early Fords. Overall there were only about 40 cars there.

I went to Volo. I think the show suffered from the heat. It also rained at 9 am in the city, lot of mosquitos. Stuff like that can really take the wind out of you just going to look at the cars never mind getting them all clean and pretty for the show. I was dying out there. The boys do have a nice batch of cars there, still not too sure they would have liked my panel, can't shake this street rodder label, haha. The nice thing about Volo is that if it is real hot you can go look at the cars for sale and cool off a bit. I took the wife, she had a nice enough time, she did say that if we could not put up a shade canopy that there is no way she would sit out in the hot sun. My new assignment is to figure out how to make a shade pup style tent that I can attach to the truck without sinking any stakes. Need to go to the fabric store and see if I can find a red water proof fabric. I feel in love with that little black, 37 I think, with the 60 in it, the wife dragged me away from it, she saw a dangerous look in my eye. Will do it again.

Frank,

You should have brought your '38 - would have been more than welcome. That '37 certainly is a sweet car. The owner has had it forever but won't drive it. Probably would not be great on the road with that little 60 and those skinny wheels. Did you see the "original" '36 farm truck parked two over from the '37? He took 1st place!

Ken

What? Yeah I saw the 36 farm truck, the owner said not to touch it he didn't want me to leave any finger prints, he was pretty straight faced about it so I just looked at the wife and made sure she didn't say anything, you never know, he may have been serious. I was looking for you but didn't see you around. Still waiting for a new title on my 38, killed the year for me, oh well hopefully it will come soon. I would drive that 37 anywhere, I love that car.

Sorry I missed you Frank. I was running around pretty crazy. Still had a lot to do even with the small turnout.

The owner of the farm truck was pretty cool - he was joking with you. Below is a picture of his truck, along with a Model T rat rod with a flattie he brought. Also the '37 Standard Tudor with 60 hp.
