Antifreeze low silicate or not.

I am getting the A ready for the winter months and about to change the antifreeze. I usually only run a gallon of antifreeze and the rest Distilled water. The car stays in a insulated garage with heat when it really gets cold.I have a two year old Brassworks 10 fin heavy duty Radiator. Should I care if the antifreeze is a low silicate,no silicate, or a regular ?? antifreeze like Prestone which doe's not really say. Thanks for you input. A-Jay

I don't believe the model A would care which you use.. Prestone now is supposed to be no-silicate as most are today..

The no silicate stuff was designed to extend the life of ceramic bearings and seals on modern water pumps. The current 'modern' A water pump rebuilds use grease filled bearings and elastomeric lip seals.

I was just thinking about those seals yesterday, and wonder how the lip seals hold up to rusty water, for those who don't use antifreeze.
